When I came up with the idea for this unit, I had a lot of great ideas, and I couldn't seem

to choose one. I ended up choosing the Poetry unit, because it was something that I resonated

with personally. Although I don't write poetry often, when I do, I take my time, and it always

seems so fulfilling. For some people, writing poetry is an outlet. For me, it's an outlet for also a

form of expression. I have always been very in tune with the arts, And writing is definitely an art

form. Back to myself when I was in high school. Poetry was one of the best units for me,

because it was so unique, and there were not a lot of limitations. I enjoy riding when I don't have

limitations, because I can be my free, and complete self. I understand the Poetry can be

challenging for other people, which is why I've decided to give students a chance to use a visual

aid component, and a presentation component. For me, the goal of this assignment was not to

make students write great poems, but to let my students be expressive, and show their true

beings. In schools, students are so wrapped up and being people Pleasers, that they sometimes

forget to be who they are. The classroom will be a safe space, which means that the things

being said, read, and talked about, will stay within the four walls of the classroom. For my

personal poem, and my model text, I use a poem I already wrote. I wrote this poem with all eyes

open on who I really am. I wanted to be sure that I did not offend anyone, but I was extremely

honest. Though some people may still be offended, I spoke my truth. Do they sell pasties in

their everyday lives. High school is like a safety net for people's feelings sometimes. I want my

students to see the reality, and the real world. I don't want them to be blind about the things that

are happening in society, including racism, sexism, and all forms of Injustice, and inequality. I

want them to be aware of these things so that they don't contribute to them, but find the means

to make sure they avoid them, or correct them when necessary. Overall, I hope you enjoyed this

unit as much as I enjoyed playing it. And maybe one day I will use this tomorrow in my own

classroom.
