Week Three - Research

What did you learn from your
research?
How has the research into existing
artists and professionals helped you
improve your ideas?
How has the research into your
target audience helped you improve
your ideas?
From my research I have learnt more about my target
audience. This includes the social media platforms they use
and how they use them, I sent out a survey asking them these
questions.
Most of my responses said that they use their social medias to
talk with friends and family, this will allow my production to
reach a larger audience. I also did research into some
professionals in the medium.
I decided to do research intro Neill Blomkamp who mainly does
sci-fi horror short films and Andrea Arnold who has done a
variety of different short films. The types of short films they
have produced are drastically different as Blomkamp’s
productions have a much darker tone while Arnold’s
productions generally have a relatively happy ending. From
my research into them I have found that in order to improve
my ideas I am going to have to be more creative with how I
film and edit my production so that it keeps the audience’s
attention.
Research into my target audience has helped me to improve
my idea as I have been able to understand how much my
target audience already know about my chosen genre and idea
and incorporate it into the production so that it will be easy for
them to follow without getting confused.
How has the research into your
platform helped you improve your
ideas?
When researching the platforms I am going to post my
production on I decided to find out the average age of the
users. I decided on the platforms I am going to post my
production on by sending a survey out to my target audience, I
was already planning on posting it onto YouTube, from my
survey I found that the social media platform that my target
audience uses the most is Instagram so I will also be posting
the production onto there.

Media product you hope to make - and talk about how they inform your planning
● ‘sustained’ – continue your research throughout the eleven-week project and don’t just limit
it to the first two weeks
