Economics Last week we covered a basic introduction to macro and micro economics, the economic problem and opportunity cost.
This week will be an introduction to the Stock Market, positive and normative economic statements and the factors of production
within the Production Possibility Frontier.
English We continue to explore the literary background to the American Deep South during the Antebellum Period, in preparation for our
study of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire. We will finish looking at the perspective of the plantation owners,
exploring extracts from Swallow Barn by John Pendleton Kennedy and Recollections of a Southern Matron by Caroline Gilman.
We will focus on the presentation of setting, gender, and class relations.

In addition we continue to explore the tradition of gothic literature in preparation for our study of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. We
are reading and discussing the first gothic novel, Horace Walpole’s The Castle of Otranto, discussing how Walpole established a
new genre and how it differed from previous romances, with a particular focus on how he establishes a gothic setting and
debating the realism of the characters and dialogue.
