Departmental Syllabus
COURSE DESDCRIPTION: Foundation material in probability and statistical
inference. Topics include sample spaces, conditional probability and Bayes' rule,
random variables, discrete and continuous probability distributions, expectation,
estimation, and hypothesis testing.

COURSE OBEJCTIVES: To provide a foundation in probability theory and statistical


inference in order to solve applied problems and to prepare for more advanced courses
in probability and statistics.

Course requirements

Technology: A calculator and access to the statistical computer software, SPSS,


Minitab & SAS are required.

Homework Assignments: Assignments will given on regular basis throughout the


semester and will include weekly chapter readings and exercises for approximately
every other class.
Submitted exercises must be legible: type or neatly handwritten.

Assessment Tools

These include short quizzes, exams, assignments, attendance and class participation.
The short quizzes are about 15 minutes long in class tests. The midterm is 90 minutes &
final exams are 180 minutes long in class tests and will be arranged according to the
JUST Academic Calendar, The dates of assignment and quiz will be announced in the
class.

Attendance + participation 5%
Research 15%
Assignment + Quiz 10%
Mid + Semester Exam 20%
Final 50%
Total 100%

Essential Policy Information

 Zero tolerance for cheating in the exams.


 No entrance into the class room if more than 15 minutes late.
 No makeups for the quizzes.
 Makeup exams for mid- terms and final exam may be arranged for
appropriate reasons. The student must apply with supporting documents.
