ONE

LOGPOINT FREE QUICK INSTALL GUIDE

LogPoint Free is a virtual demo appliance with minimal functionalities of LogPoint. It gives you an idea
of what you can do with LogPoint. You can use it on a variety of virtualization platforms.

1.1 Installation

1. Download and import the OVA file in your preferred virtual environment.
2. After the initial boot, log into the console with the li-admin credentials. The default li-admin cre-
dentials are:

username: li-admin
password: changeme

3. From the menu, you can set an IP for the LogPoint, install the license, and configure the log devices.
If you setup the devices from the menu, LogPoint automatically adds the relevant dashboards for
the admin user in the LogPoint.

Note: Use the numbers, tab, and the return key to navigate the menu.

4. Access the LogPoint by directing the web browser to the IP configured previously. Login with the
default admin credentials which are:

username: admin
password: changeme

Note: We recommend you to change the password after the first login.

On completing the installation, you can start using the LogPoint.

1.2 Using LogPoint Free

1. LogPoint supports many different log sources, a subset of which has been included with LogPoint
Free. Refer to the Administration Manual to learn how to define Normalization Policies, Log Collec-
tion Policies, Device Groups, and Device Configurations.
2. You can forward syslog messages from devices such as network equipments and UNIX servers to
LogPoint.

3. Logs are collected only from the devices configured in the LogPoint.
4. To collect syslog messages from Windows Servers, install the nxlog agent in the server. If you
cannot use the nxlog agent on a Windows server, refer to the LogPoint Administration Manual to
setup a WMI Fetcher.
5. Once you start using LogPoint, you can:
• Check the dashboards as they are populated with data.
• Perform searches from the Search tab. You can use the search help by pressing the down arrow
key.
• Define widgets and place them in a dashboard.
• Save searches.
• Define labels.
• Create reports.
You can also perform various other actions in the LogPoint. For details on general use, refer to the
LogPoint User Manual.
6. Make sure that you setup NTP from Settings >> System Settings >> NTP. Provide the timeserver to
synchronize the time setting in the system.
