Relationship between England and Its Colonies

The relationship between England and its colonies has existed for a long period. The

thirteen colonies that formed the United States of America were initially part of the Great Britain

territory. During the American Revolution, the citizens of these colonies were starting to get tired

of the British rule. The level of discontent and revolt was high. The revolution was important to

bring change in the American society. Taxation was the key argument for the colonies beginning

revolting against the mother country. The colonies held discussions on the legal authority of

England to tax them and did not desire to be levied the tax without representation. This was one

of the principal causes of the American Revolution. The paper reviews the relationship between

England and its colonies on the American Revolution.

England had a right to tax the colonialists. Firstly, they were once citizens of Great

Britain and thus it is important to follow the national rules and regulations. Secondly, England

had a right to control and control the colonies about the Royal Proclamation of 1763 (Turner,

2018). The government was entitled to the land west of the colonies that the colonies conquered

and acquired. Consequently, the colonists should be permitted on the western side of the British

territory. Thirdly, Great Britain had the right to tax the colonists because Britain was attempting

to uphold peace while the colonists were not. In this regard, these arguments justify that England

had the right to tax the colonists.

The colonists were justified in rebelling British policies after the French and Indian war.

The proclamation of 1763 was the main argument for this rebellion. In case the colonists desired

to rebel that was their choice. The British were illegally taxing the colonists. The tea act, the

stamp act, and others were at the helm of the dung heap (Nikolova, 2017). The colonists could

not even make decisions in the British Government. In addition, the British did not have the right

levying the colonists the taxes for the French and Indian War. The colonists were the first

individuals to battle and had incurred losses compared to Britain. Consequently, the Boston

massacre was an issue. The British redcoats took away the innocent lives of colonists. It is

evident this is not an ethical way to treat the individual that the authority is protecting. It was not

ethical to entitle the entire land to the colonists gained from the battle then assert they cannot

travel on the western side. Lastly, the colonists had to pay more than half of the taxes they should

be entitled to. It is a fact that the colonists were tired of Britain and had the right to revolt against

Britain. In this regard, no individual or authority should have to deal with the issues that Britain

was giving the colonist.

The break away from the mother nation was inevitable, and the rebellion against taxes

made it earlier than anticipated. It was evitable as the individuals were angered by the mercantile

exploiting policies of the home nation. Historian contends that the American Revolution was

inevitable grounded on the need for independence. It is a fact that whereas the independence of

the colonies was inevitable, the war itself was evitable. The battle would have never happened if

not for the significant figures and their protests and commotions against one another. I would

have engaged in the war to hinder the emanating exploiting policies of Britain. In this regard, due

to the treatment of the colonies before the American Revolution, the colonies would have formed

a pact with Great Britain later and not to the degree of independence that we presently have.

Evidently, the deteriorating relationship between England and its colonies catapulted the

revolutionary war. England had a right to tax the colonists because it was attempting to hold

harmony as well as the presence of the Royal Proclamation of 1763. The Proclamation of 1763

made it justifiable for the colonists to rebel the British policies after the French Indian War. It is

undeniable that the break away from the mother nation was inevitable. In essence, various

argument illuminates why the relationship between England and its colonies resulted to the

revolutionary war.
