5 BENDING BY MEANS OF A DRIVING DEVICE

The driving device allows to reduce the instability of the beams bent on the rib with
low radius/height ratios.
During profile bending it is necessary to pay the greatest attention if the following
occurs:

1) The bent wing of profile tends to take on the deformation indicated in figure
6.5-A

The drive applied by the device is lower

than necessary to make the bending,
therefore it is necessary to increase strength
(Par.6.5.1 step f).
6.5-A

2) The bent wing of the profile (on the external radius) tends to take on the
deformation indicated in figure 6.5-B

The drive applied by the device is higher

than necessary to make the bending,
therefore it is necessary to decrease strength
(Par.6.5.1 step f).

6.5-B

6.5.1 The bending of the profile can be made as follows:

a) Arrange the composition of rolls according to diagrams 6.5.1-A 6.5.1-B

corresponding to HE and IPE beams;

6.5.1-A 6.5.1-B
b) Shift the side rolls until it is possible to insert the profile, align the guides
(6.2.1-B) and position the small rolls of the driving device to about half the
height of the beam to be bent;

c) Keep the cock, located in the left board of the profile bending machine, in
working position B (6.5.1-C);

6.5.1-C

d) Insert the draw piece between the rolls by making it move up to the side guide
opposed to the insertion side (6.2.1-C 6.5.1-D); the roll of the driving device
must be within the beam (6.5.1-E);

6.5.1-D 6.5.1-E

e) Centre the driving device (6.5.1-F) and align the profile with the guides, shift
with the side roll until the draw piece rests on the three rolls; this movement
must be accompanied by lifting the driving device (6.5.1-G);
6.5.1-F 6.5.1-G

f) Act on the downward lever of the driving device and adjust the desired
working pressure by means of the C knob located in the right board of the
profile bending machine and displayed in the pressure gauge D (6.5.1-H);

g) Go back with the profile, avoiding to loose contact with the lower roll (6.5.1-I);

h) Go up with the side roll up to the position which determines the size of radius
that you wish to obtain;

6.5.1-H 6.5.1-I

i) Advance with the E rolls rotation and at the same time make the driving device
F move downward (6.5.1-L) until you can measure the bending radius; if you
have not got the desired radius it is necessary to change the position of the side
roll (6.2.1-E);
j) Advance with the rotation also by operating the driving device at the same
time, until the final part of the profile reaches the side guide (6.5.1-M);

6.5.2 When the driving device is not used, it is necessary to pull out the roll supports
by loosening the screws G only (6.5.2-A)

6.5.2-A

6.5.3 Check that the rolls of the driving device are always slightly braked, they have
to be rotated manually with not too much effort, otherwise it is necessary to
act on the three screws H (6.5.2-A) by pulling uniformly.
