Critical infrastructure refers to assets and systems, whether virtual or physical, so important to

the United States that the destruction or incapacitation of such assets and systems would contribute to

debilitating impact on national public health, security, national economic security or safety or a

combination of the above-mentioned matters. The national infrastructure protection plan in its current

status represents a case to integrate physical and cybersecurity, and the resilience of networks, systems,

and critical infrastructure security. Regional and local development organizations should include such

considerations in their resilience planning.

There are a total of 16 critical infrastructure sectors. An example is the critical manufacturing

sector. It’s an important aspect of the continuity and economic prosperity of the United States. A

disruption or direct attack of particular elements of the manufacturing industry would cause essential

national level functions to be disrupted and hence spread across various critical infrastructure sector.

The partnership between the federal government and the private sector ensures operators receive

accurate, timely, and useful hazard/threat information. The sharing of information will allow informed

decision making on the best method to protect the critical infrastructure. It always justification

businesswise on the federal government to invest in protective measures.

A major problem of the protection plan is the challenge of dealing with natural disaster. There is

tension between the organizational and private sector and the goals set primarily rests with the national

government. Since the private sector operates and owns a higher percentage of the critical

infrastructure of the nation, the public-private partnership will foster collaborative, integrated

engagement important in maintaining n the security and resilience of the critical infrastructure.
