Insulin made from egg yolk promises cheaper treatment for diabetics
5 messages
Hi everybody,
This time I would like comment with you this article from New Atlas.
The article talk about an alternative for the insulin pumps diabetics currently rely on.
This alternative has egg yolks serving as starting point, it was a key factor in allowing the scientists to explore the effect of chemically positioning the sugar on the
insulin molecule to address fibrillation without impacting on its activity.
The new product was called glycoinsulin, not only it doesn’t form fibrils but it is more stable in human serum than native insulin.
This new medical treatment has not yet been put on the market but I am sure that in a short time it will be ready thanks to the quality work done by doctors and
pharmaceutical companies.
Every week I have the chance to read new articles about new medical treatments, which gives me hope for our future.

Hi Matteo,
I also got attracted by this article due to the news it talks about and due to the fact that I enjoy getting to know about the discoveries and development the modern
Medicine researches are bringing out daily. You pointed out the quality related topic correctly, as a Quality Approach is the only possible one when researching for
molecules that are going to be effectively used to improve life of people. In this case, the optimal use of resources and the coordination among research team
members has brought to a more effective way to treat diabetes.
It is true: reading and hearing about how much can be achieved in this sector is something that surely gives us hope for the future. And Hope is really something
we need right now. Time for us could appear to be dark, but these progresses are lights that will continue to guide humanity further in its life.

Hi Matteo.
I had already read about this topic. I think that people that suffer from diabetes could have a lot of issues during their daily life. One of my friends has this disease
and he has to take a lot of care about it. I think that find new cures for this disease is not only necessary for better health but also for a better quality of life.
Normally, we think about TQM applied to the industry but it is also important for our life. Be able to have a better lifestyle is necessary to improve the quality of our
life and these discoveries are very useful to gain this objective.

This is such an important article because there are so many millions of people in the U.S.A. and around the world that
use the insulin pumps to treat their diabetes. This new development, if it is successful, could save a lot of money in
pump replacements, and possibly lives. Even though that the results are early, I like the facts that the scientific
breakthrough keeps the serum stable, and did not form clumps, known as fibrils. This is important to the shelf life and
effectiveness of the drug. For researches, this is very promising news to improve patient treatment, and reduce the
wasting of the medicine. For patients, this is a life changer because it reduces risks them. I personally think that it will
work, and am looking forward to hearing future reports on the development of this technology.
