PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
The General Education Department aims to:

1. train students to be God-fearing and loving, responsible and morally upright individuals;
2. provide students with a broad knowledge in natural, human and mathematical sciences to prepare them for the pursuit of other related professions;
3. enhance social and technical skills with emphasis in verbal and written communication arts, analytical thinking and leadership;
4. cultivate in students tolerance for differences in beliefs, values, arts and culture of people ; and
5. develop healthy, physically fit and active members of the society.

I. COURSE DESCRIPTIVE TITLE: BUSINESS COMMUNICATION WITH PRESENTATION SKILLS

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course deals with the fundamentals of effective writing, business letter writing, and presentation skill. It presents various forms and styles to attain effective
writing and speaking to fulfill the students’ aspiration in the world of work.
Course Units: 3 units lecture and exercises
Hours/Terms: 51 hours lecture and exercises
Prerequisite/Co-requisite: English 2

III. COURSE RATIONALE

The course is designed to develop and enhance the grammar and writing skills of the students enrolled in the School of Hospitality Management. Its major
emphasis is to develop their ability to understand concepts of Business Communication. Through this course, the students will learn to define successful business
writing, verbal and non-verbal communication. They will also learn about the different formats of communication and their applications necessary for the success in
today’s technology-delivered business world.

IV. COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Develop personal business communication skills necessary both within the organization and for communication with external audiences.
2. Observe the internal mechanisms needed for business communication and ensure that these are effective.
3. Use an appropriate format and business writing style and apply conventions to Standard English.
4. Write effective letters for different purposes.
5. Revise and proofread messages for organization, content, style, mechanics, format, and layout.
6. Employ the skills in how to deal with different types of data, particularly for the purpose of presenting information professionally.
7. Demonstrate necessary skills in writing letters for employment purposes and responding to interviews.

VI. GRADING SYSTEM
Grades will be computed according to the institutional policy:

Prelim Grade = 70% CS + 30% Exam


Midterm Grade = 60 % CS + 40% Exam
Tentative Final Grade = 50% CS + 50 % Exam
FINAL GRADE = Prelim Grade + Midterm Grade + Tentative Final Grade
