SPECIAL PERSONAL

NOVENA
AND HOLY HOUR
FOR FORGIVENESS

Compiled and arranged by

Israel L. Mendoza, ECT
September 2018
SPECIAL PERSONAL NOVENA PRAYERS FOR
FORGIVENESS

METHODOLOGY:

1. This is a personal novena specially prepared for the intention

of asking God for forgiveness and strength to forgive our
enemies and those who have grudges with us, to forgive
ourselves and to gradually heal from the past.

2. This novena shall be done individually at least 30 minutes

before a Holy Mass anytime for nine consecutive days. It can
be done at any church we prefer to pray with serenity and
solemnity and accompanied by a novena to a Saint (e.g. St.
Padre Pio, St. Vincent Ferrer, etc.) or to any title of the Blessed
Virgin Mary (e.g. Our Mother of Perpetual Help, etc.).
Confession shall be made within that period.

3. The prayers to be used for this novena are the following:

a. Divine Mercy Chaplet (A rosary should accompany
the Chaplet.)
b. Novena to St. Josemaría Escrivá for Forgiveness,
and
c. Litany of Forgiveness

4. Recite those prayers by heart. It is best to kneel throughout

the novena proper as a sign of humility before Jesus who is
physically present in the Blessed Sacrament and in the
Crucifix.

5. Receive Holy Communion and pray for our personal intentions,

most especially, for peace in our heart and for strength to
forgive those persons we are praying for, also, ourselves.

6. Try to greet or to make a smile to those persons we have

prayed for in the novena. If they failed to respond, offer them a
little prayer and retain a positive and desirable attitude
towards them.

b. Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven.

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
Amen.

c. Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed
art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy
womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and

at the hour of our death, Amen.

d. The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven
and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our
Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He
descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand
of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and
the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic
Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of
sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen.

THE NOVENA TO ST. JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ FOR
FORGIVENESS.

O God, through the mediation of Mary our Mother, you
granted your priest Saint Josemaría countless graces,
4| Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness
choosing him as a most faithful instrument to found
Opus Dei, a way of sanctification in daily work and in
the fulfillment of the Christian’s ordinary duties. Grant
that I too may learn to turn all the circumstances and
events of my life into occasions of loving you and
serving the Church, the Pope and all souls with joy and
simplicity, lighting up the pathways of this earth with
faith and love.

Deign to grant me, through the intercession of Saint

Josemaría, the favour of... (make your request). Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father

V- LITANIES BY THE CISTERCIAN MONKS OF THE

HOLY CROSS
a. Litany of Forgiveness
b. Litany of Interior Peace
c. Prayers for the Healing of Relationships

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness |5

DAY 1 – For Peace of Heart

WHATEVER TAKES AWAY your peace of soul cannot come from God.
The Way, no. 258

A clear mark of men and women of God is the peace in their souls. They
possess peace and they transmit peace to those with whom they have
dealings.
The Forge, no. 649

Just as Christ “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38) throughout

Palestine, so must you also spread peace in your family circle, in civil
society, on the job, and in your cultural and leisure activities.
Christ is Passing By, no. 166

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
Lord, you know how much I desire to have your peace within me. But I
know very well that I cannot obtain it as long as I harbor bitterness and
resentment in my heart, like wounds that never heal over.

I would like to be able to say what Saint Paul said: “forbearing one
another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each
other... And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (Col 3:13.15).
Without your help, Lord, by my efforts alone, I will never be able to
attain that peace.

And so I humbly beg you, through Saint Josemaría’s intercession, for the
grace to be able to forgive. Cleanse my heart from the infection of hatred,
anger, dislikes, and other bitter feelings that divide, however much I feel
my reaction is justified by other people’s faults and offenses.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ (page 5)

6| Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness
DAY 2 – For Understanding and Forgiveness

NEVER THINK BADLY of anyone, not even if the words or conduct of

the person in question give you good grounds for doing so.
The Way, no 442

Charity does not consist so much in “giving” as in “understanding”.

Therefore, seek an excuse for your neighbour – there is always one to be
found, – if it is your duty to judge.
The Way, no. 463

Put yourself always in your neighbour’s shoes. You will then see the
various issues or problems calmly. You will not get annoyed. You will be
understanding. You will make allowances and will correct people when
and as required. And you will fill the world with charity.
The Forge, no. 958

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
Jesus, you see how difficult I find it to understand others, to see the best
in them and forgive their faults when they upset me and hurt me.

I ask you for the grace to fulfill your command: “Judge not, and you will
not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive,
and you will be forgiven” (Lk 6:37).

You know, Lord, that often the first thing I notice about people is the
negative things, the things that annoy me, that I see as ridiculous or
unbearable. And so I develop the vice of thinking and speaking badly
about others.

Lord, have mercy on me, who am so unmerciful. Although I don’t

deserve it, I beg you to grant me, through Saint Josemaría’s intercession,
a heart that is able to understand and forgive.

8| Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

DAY 3 – For Overcoming Pride

IF YOU ARE SO WEAK, is it surprising that others too have their

weaknesses?
The Way, no. 446

Force yourself, if necessary, always to forgive those who offend you,

from the very first moment. For the greatest injury or offense that you
can suffer from them is as nothing compared with what God has
pardoned you.
The Way, no. 452

Let’s reject all pride, be compassionate, show charity; help each other
with prayer and sincere friendship.
The Forge, no. 454

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
Lord, it’s true that I pray, and ask you to forgive me, but I still don’t
forgive those who offend me. Forgive me for disdaining the words of
your Son Jesus, which I say so often when I pray the Our Father: “forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us” (Matt
6:12).

I realize that if I were sincere, beneath all that hardness I would see my
own pride. I recognize that I am touchy, I take offense easily, I take the
things people say or do the wrong way, and the slightest insinuation
upsets me... And you, Jesus: how did you behave when people treated
you badly? What do you do to me when I mistreat you with my sins? I
know perfectly well that every time I go and confess my sins, you say to
me: “I absolve you.”

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness |9

Lord, I don’t want to be a hypocrite! Through Saint Josemaría’s
intercession, grant me the grace to be humble, as an indispensable
condition for learning to forgive.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ (page 5)

10 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

DAY 4 – For Conquering Anger

SAY WHAT YOU HAVE JUST SAID, but in a different tone, without
anger, and your argument will gain in strength and, above all, you won’t
offend God.
The Way, no. 9

Never correct anyone while you are still indignant about a fault
committed. Wait until the next day, or even longer. And then, calmly,
and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You will gain more by
one friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. Control your temper.
The Way, no. 10

Always remain silent when you feel the upsurge of indignation within
you. And do so, even when you have good reason to be angry. For, in
spite of your discretion, in such moments you always say more than you
wish.
The Way, no. 656

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
I think, Jesus, about your words “learn from me; for I am gentle and
lowly in heart” (Matt 11:29). And then I think about myself: my
irritations, my sharpness, the anger that boils up inside me, the
conviction that it’s fine to be hard on other people because “I’m right”.

Saint Paul said: “Let all bitterness and wrath (…) and slander be put
away from you” (Eph 4:31). Saint Josemaría responded to slander with a
constant attitude of “keeping quiet, working, forgiving, and smiling”.

Heart of Jesus, meek and humble, through Saint Josemaría’s intercession,

make my heart like your own.

12 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

DAY 5 – For Conquering Resentment

THOSE WHO ZEALOUSLY keep a “list of grudges” show themselves to

be exceptionally narrow-minded. Such poor souls are impossible to live
with.
Furrow, no. 738

Forgiveness. To forgive with one’s whole heart and with no trace of a

grudge will always be a wonderfully fruitful disposition to have! That
was Christ’s attitude on being nailed to the Cross: “Father, forgive them,
they know not what they are doing.” From this came your salvation and
mine.
Furrow, no. 805

Men do not scandalize God. He can put up with all our infidelities.
Christ is Passing By, no. 64

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
My God, I know that resentment is a wound that self-love and pride
keep open and stir up in the heart; it is gangrene, carefully cultivated in
the soul by hatred. It scares me, my God, because I have discovered it
inside myself, rooted there like a cancer.

Someone once said that resentment is the devil’s oven. They were right. I
too feel that it is a cursed fire that incinerates the love, understanding
and peace that should always mark the relationships of God’s children.

Free me from it, Jesus! Help me to get rid of this disease through
frequent Confession. Grant me, through Saint Josemaría’s intercession,
the strength from Heaven to forgive and forget.

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 13

May I never harbour resentment. Instead, may I leave my bitterness
within your Heart and learn there how to say: “Father, forgive them!”
(Lk 23:34).

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ (page 5)

14 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

DAY 6 – For Overcoming Family Quarrels

IT IS POSSIBLE to live happily together when everyone tries to correct

their own defects and makes an effort to overlook the faults of others.
Conversations with Msgr. Josemaría Escrivá, no. 108

Our love has to be a dedicated love, practiced every day and made up of
a thousand little details of understanding, hidden sacrifice and
unnoticed self-giving.
Christ is Passing By, no. 36

Remain silent, and you will never regret it: speak, and you often will.
The Way, no. 639

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
My God, you know that I find it really hard to forgive people’s
inconsiderateness towards me, their thoughtlessness, disrespect,
impatience and impoliteness; and you know that I find it even harder to
admit that I too fall into those same faults. I ask you, through Saint
Josemaría’s intercession, for help to overcome my exaggerated self-
esteem and to practice what Saint Paul tells us: “with all lowliness and
meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love” (Eph 4:2).

Set me free, Lord, from obstinately thinking that only I know what is
right; from being rude, getting impatient over little faults, and arguing
about unimportant things... I ask you for the charity to be able to keep
silent, smile, put a good face on things, and say I’m sorry when I have
corrected someone sharply. And if need be, I ask you for the heroic
forgiveness with which you received Judas in the garden as he was
betraying you.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ (page 5)

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 15
DAY 7 – To Take the First Step

OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN pardons any offense when his child returns
to him, when he repents and asks for pardon. The Lord is such a good
Father that he anticipates our desire to be pardoned and comes forward
to us, opening his arms laden with grace.
Christ is Passing By, no. 64

It was the Lord who took the initiative by coming out to meet us. He
gave us this example.
Friends of God, no. 228

It is in the Sacrament of Penance that you and I put on Jesus Christ and
his merits.
The Way, no. 310

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
O God, Father of Mercy, I open the Gospel and see that Jesus is asking
me always to take the first step to reconciliation, to be the first to say
sorry and offer forgiveness. “Leave your gift there before the altar and
go; first be reconciled to your brother” (Matt 5:24).

It is only fair for you to ask me to do what you did yourself. Indeed,
Saint Paul says that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rm
5:8). My God, how hard I find it to take that first step when I am
convinced that I’m right, that I am the one who was offended! It seems
something superhuman.

I can only do it with your strength, Lord! Saint Josemaría, intercede for
me, so that I make up my mind to seek God’s help by making a sincere
Confession, because it is in the Sacrament of Reconciliation that I can
find the grace I need.

DAY 8 – To Return Good for Evil

TO OUR FALLING again and again into evil, Jesus responds with his
determination to redeem us, with an abundance of forgiveness.
The Way of the Cross, 7th Station

The task for a Christian is to drown evil in an abundance of good

Furrow, no. 864

Get used to replying to those poor “haters”, when they pelt you with
stones, by pelting them with Hail Marys.
The Forge, no. 650

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
Good Jesus, I recognize that when I feel offended the desire to retaliate
starts to boil up inside me. Exactly what you did not do! How difficult it
is to subdue the fantasy of the little or big acts of revenge constructed by
my imagination! And yet I know that I should be thinking about
forgiving!

Lord, when I feel like that, bring to my mind your words: “Love your
enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matt 5:44); and the
words of Saint Paul: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil
with good” (Rm 12:21).

I beg you, Lord, that my meditation on Saint Josemaría’s words for today
may awaken in me, through his intercession, the resolution of always
praying for those who cause me any harm, and wanting good for them,
“drowning evil in an abundance of good”.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ (page 5)

18 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

DAY 9 – For Our Lady’s Help

MARY’S MOST SWEET HEART must have suffered immensely on

seeing the collective cruelty and the ferocity of the executioners that led
to the Passion and Death of Jesus. Mary, however, does not speak. Like
her Son, she loves, keeps silent and forgives. Here we see the strength of
love!
Friends of God, no. 237

Get accustomed to entrusting your poor heart to the Sweet and

Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that she may purify it of so much dross,
and lead it to the Most Sacred and Merciful Heart of Jesus.
Furrow, no. 830

(Pause for 5-10 minutes for personal reflections.)

INTENTION
Mother of Mercy, Comforter of the afflicted, Refuge of sinners, you were
united to the sacrifice of Jesus when he shed his Blood on the Cross to
cleanse us from our sins: take pity on us poor sinners, when we cannot
manage to forgive.

When we feel resentment, anger or the desire for revenge burning inside
us, make us remember you. Never let us forget that we have a Mother
who loves us and who wants to soften our hard hearts with the warmth
of her Immaculate Heart.

Enfold us, Mother, in your embrace like small children; calm our anger
with your smile; obtain for us from your Son the gift of forgiving,
forgetting, and not stirring up grudges; and also of loving and wishing
well those who do not wish us well. Lead us, Mother, as Saint Josemaría
prayed, deep into the Sacred and Merciful Heart of Jesus.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ (page 5)

THE LITANY OF FORGIVENESS

Lord Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
Kingdom of heaven.
Yet we are preoccupied with money and worldly goods and put our
trust in what we possess rather than in your care for us.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Lord Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit
the earth.
Yet we are so concerned about our own rights and self-interest and so
little concerned about serving others.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Lord Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall
be comforted.
Yet we are impatient under our burdens and unconcerned about the
burdens of others.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Lord Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they shall have their fill.
Yet we do not thirst for you, the fountain of all holiness, and we are
satisfied with half-measures and mediocrity.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Lord Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are the merciful for they shall
receive mercy.
Yet we are so quick to condemn, so slow to forgive.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Lord Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall
see God.
Yet we have often regarded persons created in your image as objects of
our own lusts and cannot raise our eyes to you.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

20 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

Lord Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall
be called the children of God.
Yet we are so often ruthless with each other, and our homes and our
world are full of discord and resentments.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Lord, Jesus Christ, you said: Blessed are those who suffer persecution for
holiness' sake, for the Kingdom of God is theirs.
Yet we suffer no opposition because we have been ashamed of you, our
Crucified Savior, and have lived worldly compromises of your Gospel.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

THE LITANY OF INTERIOR PEACE

V. Jesus, meek and humble of heart,

R. Make my heart like unto Thine.

From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire to be sought, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire to be mourned, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of praise, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of preference, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of influence, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of approval, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of authority, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of humiliations, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of repulse, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of calumny, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of oblivion, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of ridicule, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of injury, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suspicion, Deliver me, Jesus.
That others may be loved more than myself, Jesus, grant this desire.
That others may be more highly esteemed, Jesus, grant this desire.
That others may grow and increase in honor, and I decrease, Jesus, grant
that I may desire it.
Jesus, mercy. Our Lady, help us.

Let us pray. Pour forth Thy grace into our hearts, we beseech Thee, O
Lord, that we who refrain from sin by self-denial, may be afflicted in
time rather than condemned to eternal punishment, through Our Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

22 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

PRAYERS FOR THE HEALING OF RELATIONSHIPS

Let us pray. Lord Jesus, reconciling us to each other and to God, pour out
your Spirit upon us that there may be a real work of reconciliation in our
midst now.

We remember neighbours…. past and present, good neighbours and bad

neighbours. We remember friends…. good friends and those who let us
down. We remember those with whom we worked…. those who were
good to be with and those who were a problem to us.

We give thanks for every good relationship and seek your mercy for
relationships which went wrong, whoever was at fault. May your mercy
cover any harm or hurt which these whom we have remembered did to
us or we to them.

O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord hear my prayer, When I call, answer

me. O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord hear my prayer, Come and listen
to me.

We remember those whose work was meant to help us doctors, teachers,

police officers, nurses and all the ordinary people in shops, offices and
factories. We give thanks for all the skill and care which has helped us.
May your mercy cover any harm or hurt they did to us or we to them.

O Lord, hear my prayer….

We remember those who needed us to help them, who needed our skill,
our care, our prayers. We give thanks for any way in which we were able
to mirror your love to them. We ask for your mercy to cover any harm
we did, or any good we failed to do in their time of need.

O Lord, hear my prayer….

We remember those whose suffering cries out for healing, disturbing our
peace; those whose plight cries out for justice and those whose misery
challenges our right to be comfortable. We give thanks for any way we
Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 23
can respond to their need. Have mercy on our weakness and on our
slowness to respond to your Spirit.

O Lord, hear my prayer….

Now with this work of reconciliation begun, we would pray as one family,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name; thy kingdom
come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from
evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and
ever. Amen.

Blessing and sending out at the end of this act of worship and reflection, we
remind ourselves that it is the pain and loss of terrible experiences in our lives
or in the lives of those for whom we care and whom we seek to support that has
brought us together. In these moments we have looked again into the darkness
and acknowledged that terrible things have happened. We have reminded each
other of the possibility of God’s presence in our suffering, of his grace and love,
and of the hope and possibilities of experiencing the joy of life again. Let us go
from here with a sense of renewal, knowing that in spite of the loss and suffering
of the days that have passed, we can begin or continue to live anew, that we can
rise above the sorrows of the past and once again experience joy in living. Let us
intend to bear our losses and our enduring pain through a keen sense of the
closeness of God, by raising our hearts, and by finding in each moment, each
person we meet, each act of kindness or moment of beauty, hope for today and
the strength to go on. And so….may the peace of God, which passes all
understanding, keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and
of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; And the blessing of God, the Father, the Son
and the Holy Spirit, Remain with us always. Amen.

PART B
THE CELEBRATION OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST

After receiving the Holy Communion, recite the following before praying for
personal intentions:

Grant me, O my God

by Saint Vincent Ferrer

Good Jesus, let me be penetrated with love to the very marrow of my

bones, with fear and respect toward Thee; let me burn with zeal for Thy
honour, so that I may resent terribly all the outrages committed against
Thee, especially those of which I myself have been guilty or the occasion.
Grant further, O my God, that I may adore and acknowledge Thee
humbly as my Creator, and that, I may never cease to render Thee
thanks. Grant that I may bless Thee in all things, praise and glorify Thee
with a heart full of joy and gladness, and that, obeying Thee with docility
in every respect, I may one day, despite my ingratitude and
unworthiness, be seated at Thy table together with Thy holy angels and
apostles to enjoy ineffable delights. Amen.

Stay with me, Lord

Prayer of St. Pio of Pietrelcina after Holy Communion

Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do
not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You.

Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength, that I
may not fall so often.

Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without
fervor.

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 25

Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You, I am in
darkness.

Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will.

Stay with me, Lord, so that I hear Your voice and follow You.

Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You very much, and always be in
Your company.

Stay with me, Lord, if You wish me to be faithful to You.

Stay with me, Lord, for as poor as my soul is, I want it to be a place of
consolation for You, a nest of love.

Stay with me, Jesus, for it is getting late and the day is coming to a close,
and life passes; death, judgment, eternity approaches. It is necessary to
renew my strength, so that I will not stop along the way and for that, I
need You.

It is getting late and death approaches, I fear the darkness, the

temptations, the dryness, the cross, the sorrows. O how I need You, my
Jesus, in this night of exile!

Stay with me tonight, Jesus, in life with all its dangers. I need You.

Let me recognize You as Your disciples did at the breaking of the bread,
so that the Eucharistic Communion be the Light which disperses the
darkness, the force which sustains me, the unique joy of my heart.

Stay with me, Lord, because at the hour of my death, I want to remain
united to You, if not by communion, at least by grace and love.

Stay with me, Jesus, I do not ask for divine consolation, because I do not
merit it, but the gift of Your Presence, oh yes, I ask this of You!

26 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace,
Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other
reward but to love You more and more.

With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and
continue to love You perfectly during all eternity. Amen

At the end of the Mass, say:

Jesus, King of Mercy, I trust in You.

Mary, Mother of Mercy, pray for me.

SPECIAL PERSONAL HOLY HOUR FOR
FORGIVENESS

METHODOLOGY:

1. This is a personal Holy Hour specially prepared for the

intention of asking God for forgiveness and strength to forgive
our enemies and those who have grudges with us, to forgive
ourselves and to gradually heal from the past.

2. This Holy Hour shall be done individually at least one hour

before the Holy Mass on the day after the nine-consecutive
Special Personal Novena for Forgiveness. It can be done at any
church we prefer to pray with serenity and solemnity. Lighting
of the candle is optional.

3. The prayers to be used for this Holy Hour are adapted from the
Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Sacred
Heart Institute Inc., Winona, Minnesota, USA. A rosary should
accompany the Holy Hour prayers especially on the part of
praying the Sorrowful Mysteries.

4. Recite those prayers by heart. It is best to kneel throughout

the Holy Hour as a sign of humility before Jesus who is
physically present in the Blessed Sacrament and in the
Crucifix.

5. Receive Holy Communion and pray for our personal intentions,

most especially, for peace in our heart and for strength to
forgive those persons we are praying for, also, ourselves.

6. Try to greet or to make a smile to those persons we have

prayed for in the Holy Hour. If they failed to respond, offer
them a little prayer and retain a positive and desirable attitude
towards them.

PART A
THE HOLY HOUR PROPER

I. OPENING PRAYERS

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

Prayer for Lighting a Candle (optional)

Lord, may this candle be a light for you to enlighten me in my difficult

decisions, and may it be a fire for you to purify me from all pride and
selfishness.

May it be a flame for you to build warmth into my heart towards my

family, my neighbours and all those who meet me.

Through the prayers of Mary, virgin and mother, I place in your care
those I come to remember, especially the people I will be praying for this
Special Personal Holy Hour for Forgiveness.

In leaving this candle, I wish to give you something of myself. Help me

to continue this prayer into everything I do this day. Amen.

As we now bring fire to this candle-wick, making it glow with light, may we
also bring the fire of love to this time of prayer and worship.

May this holy candle send forth dancing rays like sunrise on the most glorious
morning, and may these rays of light encircle us and those we love.

We give you thanks O God, for this happy moment and we ask that as
we are as one, in this circle of light, we may always be one with you in
the circle of your loving presence.

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 29

(Here make the intention for the Holy Hour.)

O Sacrament most holy,

O Sacrament Divine!
All praise and all thanksgiving
Be every moment thine!

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them
the fire of Thy love. Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created, and
Thou shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, didst instruct the hearts of
the faithful, grant that in the same Holy Spirit we may be truly
wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Heart of Jesus, I put my trust in Thee.

Act of Contrition

O MY GOD, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest

all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell; but
most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and
deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to
confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

O Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, have mercy on us!

Act of Spiritual Communion

30 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness
My Jesus, I believe Thou art really present in the Most Blessed Sacrament
of the Altar. I love Thee above everything else, and I long to receive Thee
into my soul. I cannot now receive Thee in Holy Communion, but I beg
Thee to come to me at least spiritually. I embrace Thee as already there,
and unite myself entirely to Thee. Grant that I may never be separated
from Thee!

I adore Thee every moment, O Living Bread from Heaven, great

Sacrament!

Offering of the Holy Hour

O my Sweet Jesus, I desire to spend this Hour with Thee, to console

Thee, and to make some reparation by the love of my poor heart for the
agony Thou didst suffer in Gethsemane. In that lone hour Thou was
forsaken, and the creatures, whom Thou didst create to love Thee, loved
Thee not. The weight of all our sins pressed on Thee, and mine as well;
and for the sorrow which I caused Thee then by my sins, I will endeavor
to repay Thee now by my love. Strengthen it, my Jesus, that it may in
some small measure give Thee consolation.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, strengthened in Thine agony by an Angel, comfort

us in our agony.

Opening Prayer to the Blessed Sacrament

My Lord Jesus Christ, it is Thy great love for men that keeps Thee day
and night in this Sacrament, full of pity and love, expecting, inviting, and
welcoming all who visit Thee. I believe that Thou art really present in the
Sacrament of the Altar. From the depth of my nothingness, I adore Thee;
and I thank Thee for the many graces Thou hast given me, especially for
the gift of Thyself in this Sacrament, for the gift of Thy most holy Mother
as my intercessor, and for the privilege of visiting Thee in this Church.

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 31

I now speak to Thy most loving Heart with a three-fold intention: to
thank Thee for the great gift of Thyself; to atone for all the insults which
Thy enemies heap upon Thee in this Sacrament; and to adore Thee
wherever Thy Eucharistic Presence is dishonored or forgotten.

My Jesus, I love Thee with my whole heart. I am very sorry for my

ingratitude to Thine infinite goodness. I now resolve, with the help of
Thy grace, never to offend Thee again. And, sinful as I am, I consecrate
to Thee my entire self, my whole will, my affections, my desires, and all
that I have. From now on, do with me and mine as Thou please. I ask for
and desire only Thy love, final perseverance, and the grace always to do
Thy holy will.

I intercede with Thee for the Souls in Purgatory, especially for those who
were most devoted to the Blessed Sacrament, and to Thy most holy
Mother. I recommend to Thee also, all poor sinners. And lastly, my dear
Savior, I unite all my desires with the desires of Thy most loving Heart.
Thus united, I present them to Thine Eternal Father, and beg Him in Thy
Name and for love of Thee, to hear and answer them.

St. Alphonsus de Liguori

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our Jesus, hearts like unto Thine.

Act of Faith

O MY GOD, I firmly believe that Thou art one God in Three Divine
Persons, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I believe that Thy Divine Son
became Man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the
living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy
Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast revealed them, Who can
neither deceive nor be deceived.

Act of Hope

32 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

O MY GOD, relying on Thy almighty power and infinite mercy and
promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of Thy grace, and
Life Everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and
Redeemer.

Act of Love

O MY GOD, I love Thee above all things, with my whole heart and soul,
because Thou art all-good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as
myself for the love of Thee. I forgive all who have injured me, and ask
pardon of all whom I have injured.

Jesus, I live for Thee.

I die for Thee.
Jesus, I am Thine in life and in death.
Amen.

Special Act of Love

O good and merciful Savior, it is the desire of my heart to return Thee

love for love. My greatest sorrow is that Thou art not loved by all men,
and, in particular, that my heart is so cold, so selfish, so ungrateful.
Deeply sensible of my own weakness and poverty, I trust that Thine
Own grace will enable me to offer Thee an act of pure love. And I wish to
offer Thee this act of love in reparation for the coldness and neglect that
are shown to Thee in the Sacrament of Thy love by Thy creatures. O
Jesus, my sovereign good, I love Thee, not for the sake of the reward
which Thou hast promised to those who love Thee, but purely for
Thyself.

I love Thee above all things that can be loved, above all pleasures, and in
fine above myself and all that is not Thee, protesting in the presence of
Heaven and earth that I will live and die purely and simply in Thy holy
love, and that if to love Thee thus I must endure persecution and

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 33

suffering, I am perfectly satisfied, and I will ever say with St. Paul:
“Nothing shall separate me from the love of Christ.”

O Jesus, Supreme Master of all hearts, I love Thee, I adore Thee, I praise
Thee, I thank Thee, because I am now all Thine Own. Rule over me, and
transform my soul into the likeness of Thyself, so that it may bless and
glorify Thee forever in the abode of the Saints. Amen.

Sweet Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us and on our erring brethren.

Prayer to Christ the King

O CHRIST, JESUS, I acknowledge Thee as Universal King. For Thee all

creatures have been made. Do Thou exercise over me all the rights that
Thou hast.

I renew my Baptismal Vows, I renounce Satan, with all his works and
pomps, and I promise to live as a good Catholic: Especially, do I pledge
myself, by all the means in my power, to bring about the triumph of the
rights of God and of Thy Church.

Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee all my poor actions to obtain that all
hearts may recognize Thy Sacred Royalty, and that thus the reign of Thy
Peace may be established throughout the entire world. Amen.

Jesus, King and Center of all hearts, through the advent of Thy Kingdom,
grant us peace.

II. ACT OF REPARATION

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, animated with a desire to repair the outrages

unceasingly offered to Thee, we prostrate before Thy throne of mercy,
and in the name of all mankind, pledge our love and fidelity to Thee!

34 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

The more Thy mysteries are blasphemed, the more firmly we shall
believe them, O Sacred Heart of Jesus!

The more impiety endeavors to extinguish our hopes of immortality, the

more we shall trust in Thy Heart, sole hope of mankind!

The more hearts resist Thy Divine attractions, the more we shall love
Thee, O infinitely amiable Heart of Jesus!

The more unbelief attacks Thy Divinity, the more humbly and
profoundly we shall adore It, O Divine Heart of Jesus!

The more Thy holy laws are transgressed and ignored, the more we shall
delight to observe them, O most holy Heart of Jesus!

The more Thy Sacraments are despised and abandoned, the more
frequently we shall receive them with love and reverence, O most liberal
Heart of Jesus!

The more the imitation of Thy virtues is neglected and forgotten, the
more we shall endeavor to practice them, O Heart, model of every virtue!

The more the devil labors to destroy souls, the more we shall be inflamed
with desire to save them, O Heart of Jesus, zealous Lover of souls!

The more sin and impurity destroy the image of God in man, the more
we shall try by purity of life to be a living temple of the Holy Spirit, O
Heart of Jesus!

The more Thy Holy Church is despised, the more we shall endeavor to
be her faithful children, O Sweet Heart of Jesus!

The more Thy Vicar on earth is persecuted, the more will we honor him
as the infallible head of Thy Holy Church, show our fidelity and pray for
him, O kingly Heart of Jesus!

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 35

O Sacred Heart, through Thy powerful grace, may we become Thy
apostles in the midst of corrupted world, and be Thy crown in the
kingdom of Heaven. Amen.

Praise and adoration ever more be given to the most holy Sacrament.

Rosary: Sorrowful Mysteries

First Mystery: The Agony in the Garden

Second Mystery: The Scourging at the Pillar
Third Mystery: The Crowning with Thorns
Fourth Mystery: The Carrying of the Cross
Fifth Mystery: The Crucifixion and Death

We recommend and invite you to invoke the powerful intercession of St.

Michael after concluding every decade. Upon finishing ‘O my Jesus...
especially those in the most need of Thy mercy’, pray:

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against

the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we
humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power
of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through
the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Prayer to the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, in these times of such brazen impiety,
show thy power with the signs of thy former victories, and from thy
throne, a from which thou bestow pardon and graces, mercifully look
upon the Church of thy Son, His Vicar on earth, and every order of
clergy and laity, who are sorely oppressed in this mighty conflict.

36 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

Powerful Vanquisher of all heresies, hasten the hour of mercy, even
though the hour of God's justice is every day provoked by the countless
sins of men.

For me who am the least of men, kneeling before thee in prayer, obtain
the grace I need to live a holy life upon earth and to reign among the just
in Heaven. Meanwhile, together with all faithful Christians throughout
the world, I greet thee and acclaim thee as Queen of the Most Holy
Rosary.

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.

Hail Holy Queen…

III. TO JESUS ABANDONED

With Mary Immaculate, let us adore, thank, implore and console, the
Most Beloved and Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

O Divine Jesus, lonely tonight in so many Tabernacles, without visitor or

worshipper I offer Thee my poor heart. May its every throb be an act of
love for Thee. Thou art always watching beneath the Sacramental Veils;
in Thy Love Thou dost never sleep and Thou art never weary of Thy
vigil for sinners. O lonely Jesus, may the flame of my heart burn and
beam always in company with Thee.

O Sacrament most Holy,

O Sacrament Divine!
All praise and all thanksgiving
Be every moment Thine!

IV. VENERATION OF THE THORN-CROWNED SAVIOR

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 37

And platting a crown of thorns, they put it up on His head. They began
to spit upon Him, and they gave Him blows. Others smote His face and
said: 'Prophesy, who is it that struck Thee?' “

O holy Redeemer! Thou art clothed with a scarlet cloak, a reed is placed
in Thy hands for a scepter, and the sharp points of a thorny crown are
pressed into Thy adorable head.

My soul, thou canst never conceive the sufferings, the insults and
indignities offered to our Blessed Lord during this scene of pain and
mockery.

I therefore salute Thee and offer Thee supreme homage as King of

Heaven and earth, the Redeemer of the world, the Eternal Son of the
living God.

O my afflicted Savior! O King of the world, Thou art ridiculed as a mock

king. I believe in Thee and adore Thee as the King of kings and Lord of
lords, as the supreme Ruler of Heaven and earth.

O Jesus! I devoutly venerate Thy sacred head pierced with thorns, struck
with a reed, overwhelmed with pain and derision.

I adore the Precious Blood flowing from Thy bleeding wounds. To Thee
be all praise, all thanksgiving and all love for evermore.

O meek Lamb, Victim for sin! May Thy thorns penetrate my heart with
fervent love, that I may never cease to adore Thee as my God, my King
and my Savior.

V. Behold, O God, our Protector,

R. And look upon the face of Thy Christ.

O my beloved Savior, at sight of Thy most holy face disfigured by

suffering, at the sight of Thy Sacred Heart so full of love, I cry out with
St. Augustine: “Lord Jesus, imprint on my heart Thy sacred wounds, so

38 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

that I may read therein sorrow and love: sorrow, to endure every sorrow
for Thee; love, to despise every love for Thee.” Amen.

We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee, because by Thy holy Cross
Thou hast redeemed the world.

To Our Lord on the Cross

My Crucified Jesus, mercifully accept the prayer which I now make to

Thee for help in the moment of my death, when at its approach all my
senses shall fail me.

When, therefore, O sweetest Jesus, my weary and downcast eyes can no

longer look up to Thee, be mindful of the loving gaze which I now turn
on Thee, and have mercy on me.

When my parched lips can no longer kiss Thy most sacred wounds,
remember then those kisses which now I imprint on Thee, and have
mercy on me.

When my cold hands can no longer embrace Thy Cross, forget not the
affection with which I embrace it now, and have mercy on me.

And when, at length, my swollen and lifeless tongue can no longer

speak, remember that I called upon Thee now.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, to Thee I commend my soul. Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal
the wounds of our souls.

Devotion in Honor of the Five Holy Wounds

As I kneel before Thee on the Cross, most loving Savior of my soul, my

conscience tells me it is I who have nailed Thee to that Cross with these
Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 39
hands of mine, as often as I have fallen into mortal sin, wearying Thee
with my monstrous ingratitude.

My God, my chief and most perfect Good, worthy of all my love, seeing
Thou hast ever loaded me with blessings, I cannot now undo my
misdeeds, as I would most willingly, but I can and will loathe them,
grieving greatly for having offended Thee Who art infinite Goodness.
And now, kneeling at Thy feet, I will try at least to compassionate Thee,
to give Thee thanks, to ask of Thee pardon and contrition. Wherefore,
with heart and lips I say:

1. To the Wound of the Left Foot:

Holy Wound of the Left Foot of my Jesus, I adore Thee! I compassionate

Thee, O my Jesus, for that most bitter pain which Thou didst suffer. I
thank Thee for the love whereby Thou wast wearied in overtaking me on
the way to ruin, and didst bleed amid the thorns and brambles of my
sins. I offer to the Eternal Father the pain and love of Thy most sacred
humanity, in atonement for my sins, all of which I detest with sincere
and bitter contrition.

2. To the Wound of the Right Foot:

Holy Wound of the Right Foot of my Jesus, I adore Thee! I

compassionate Thee, O my Jesus, for that most bitter pain which Thou
didst suffer. I thank Thee for the love which pierced Thee with such
torture and shedding of blood in order to punish my wanderings and the
guilty pleasures I have granted to my passions. I offer to the Eternal
Father all the pain and love of Thy most sacred humanity, and I pray
unto Him for grace to weep over my transgressions with burning tears,
and to enable me to persevere in the good which I have begun, without
ever swerving again from my obedience to the Commandments of my
God.

40 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

3. To the Wound of the Left Hand:

Holy Wound of the Left Hand of my Jesus, I adore Thee! I compassionate

Thee, O my Jesus, for that most bitter pain which Thou didst suffer. I
thank Thee for having, in Thy love, spared me the scourges and eternal
damnation which my sins have merited. I offer to the Eternal Father the
pain and love of Thy most sacred humanity I and I pray Him to teach me
how to turn to good account my span of life, and bring forth in it worthy
fruits of penance, and so disarm the angry justice of my God.

4. To the Wound of the Right Hand:

Holy Wound of the Right Hand of my Jesus, I adore Thee! I

compassionate Thee, O my Jesus, for that most bitter pain which Thou
didst suffer. I thank Thee for Thy graces lavished on me with such love,
in spite of all my miserable obstinacy. I offer to the Eternal Father all the
pain and love of Thy most sacred humanity, and I pray Him to change
my heart and its affections, and make me do all my actions in accordance
with the will of God.

5. To the Wound of the Sacred Side:

Holy Wound in the Side of my Jesus, I adore Thee! I compassionate Thee,

O my Jesus, for the cruel insult Thou didst suffer. I thank Thee, my Jesus,
for the love which suffered Thy Side and Heart to be pierced, that the
last drops of Blood and water might issue forth, making my redemption
to abound. I offer to the Eternal Father this outrage, and the love of Thy
most sacred humanity, that my soul may enter once for all into that most
loving Heart, eager and ready to receive the greatest sinners, and from it
may never more depart.

Make the Sign of the Cross.

Sweet Heart of my Jesus, grant that I may ever love Thee more and more.

Prayer for an Increase in Daily Holy Communions

O Sweetest Jesus, Who came into this world to give to all the life of Thy
grace, and Who, to preserve and sustain it, did will to be the remedy of
our daily infirmities, and our daily food; humbly we pray Thee, by Thy
Heart, all on fire for love of us, to pour out Thy Holy Spirit upon all, so
that those who are unhappily in mortal sin may be converted to Thee,
and recover the life of grace which they have lost; and those who by Thy
gift still live this Divine life, may every day, when they are able,
approach devoutly to Thy holy table, where, in daily Holy Communion,
receiving every day the antidote to their daily venial sins, and
nourishing the life of grace in their hearts, and purifying more and more
their souls, they may come at last to the enjoyment with Thee of eternal
beatitude. Amen.

Heart of Jesus, burning with love for us, inflame our hearts with love of
Thee!

Prayer for Those in Their Last Agony

(Recited while kneeling)

O Most Merciful Jesus, Lover of Souls: I pray Thee, by the agony of Thy
most Sacred Heart, and by the sorrows of Thine Immaculate Mother,
cleanse in Thy Blood the sinners of the whole world who are now in
their last agony, and are to die this day. Amen.

Heart of Jesus Agonizing, have mercy on the dying.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, we love Thee, save souls.

V. FOR OUR HOLY FATHER

Jesus, Supreme Pontiff of the New and Eternal Testament, Thou art
seated at the right hand of God as a perpetual Advocate for us and are
42 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness
pleased to be for all time with Thy beloved spouse the Church and with
Thy vicar who governs her. Divine Prince of the pastors of Thy flock,
Thou have deigned to place on the throne of Peter Thy servant and
Pontiff, Pope Francis. Make him, in the midst of the wickedness of our
times, mild in hostile attacks, strong in the defense of the faith, and a
gentle father and watchful master in the pastoral office.

May Thy Kingdom come, Immortal King of the ages! May the truth,
which Thou hast brought from Heaven, reach even to the ends of the
earth. May the fire which Thou dost will to be cast upon the earth
inflame all hearts. This is the desire that is in the heart of Thy vicar: a
desire to reconcile all men to Thee; a desire for concord and forgiveness
among nations; a desire for justice and peace.

Jesus, enlighten Thy vicar. Strengthen him in his sorrows and in his
universal cares. Speak that powerful word, O Lord, which shall change
minds, turn hate into love, check the fury of human passions, temper the
sufferings, and dry the tears of those who are in sorrow. Increase the
virtue and the resignation of families and pacify nations and peoples so
that the Church built by Thee on Saint Peter to gather all people around
Thine altar of life and salvation, may invoke Thee, adore Thee, and exalt
Thee in peace forever.
Amen.

V. Let us pray for our Pope.

R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and bless him upon earth,
and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

Our Father. Hail Mary.

O God, the Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, mercifully
look upon Thy servant Francis, whom Thou hast chosen as the chief
Shepherd to preside over Thy Church. We beg Thee to help him edify,
both by word and example, those over whom he has charge, that he may
reach everlasting life together with the flock entrusted to him. Through
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Taken from the Roman Missal.

O Heart of Love, I put all my trust in Thee, for I fear all things from my
own weakness, but I hope for all things from Thy goodness.
--------St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

VI. PERIOD OF SILENT ADORATION

“Speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth.”

(1 Kings 3:10)

“Lord, what wilt Thou have me do?”

(Acts 9:6)

(Pause for more or less than 10 minutes for silent adoration. It can be
accompanied by a series of soft religious music.)

Prayer for Final Perseverance

Eternal Father, I humbly adore and thank Thee for having created me,
and for having redeemed me by means of Jesus Christ. I thank Thee for
having made me a Christian by giving me the true faith, and by adopting
me for Thy child in holy Baptism. I thank Thee for having given me time
for repentance after my many sins, and for having, as I hope, pardoned
all my offenses against Thee.

O Infinite Goodness! I thank Thee also for having preserved me from

falling again as often as I should have done if Thou had not held me up
and saved me. But my enemies do not cease to fight against me, nor will
they until death, that they may again have me for their slave; If Thou
dost not keep and help me continually by Thine assistance, I shall be
wretched enough to lose Thy grace anew. I therefore pray Thee, for the
love of Jesus Christ, to grant me holy perseverance till death. Thy Son
Jesus has promised that Thou wilt grant us whatever we ask for in His
name. By the merits, then of Jesus Christ, I beg of Thee for myself, and
for all those who are in Thy grace, the grace of never more being
44 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness
separated from Thy love, but that we may always love Thee in this life
and in the next.

Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me.

Sweet Heart of Jesus, be my love,

Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation.

Closing Prayer to the Blessed Sacrament

At this hour of adoration closes, O Jesus, I renew my faith and trust in

Thee. I am refreshed after these moments with Thee, and I count myself
among a privileged number, even as Thy disciples were, who shared
Thine actual presence.

Realizing that my visit to Thee is of little avail unless I try to live a better
life and set a better example, I am resolved to go forth again to my duties
and my concerns with a renewed spirit of perseverance and good will. In
my daily life I will try to love and serve God well, and love my neighbor
also, for these two things go together. I will try to be a true disciple,
indeed. Help me, O Jesus, in this my resolution.

Bless me, dear Lord, before I go. And bless not me alone, O Lord, but all
as well who are here present, and all who could not come, especially the
sick and the dying. Bless our homes and all the children there. Bless all
our life and the hour of our death.

Grant rest to the Souls of the faithful departed, and bring them into the
light of Thy Divine glory.

So may we who have worshiped Thee and been blessed by Thee here on
earth, come to behold the radiant glory of Thy unveiled countenance in
Heaven for ever and ever. Amen.

Say three times:

Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come!

Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without
fervor.

Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness | 47

48 | Special Personal Novena and Holy Hour for Forgiveness

Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace,
Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other
reward but to love You more and more.

With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and
continue to love You perfectly during all eternity. Amen

At the end of the Mass, say:

Jesus, King of Mercy, I trust in You.

Mary, Mother of Mercy, pray for me.
