Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

All Nevada education and early childhood education student are required to pass

the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Exam before they can be fully accepted

into their bachelor level education or early childhood programs at UNLV, NSC, or UNR.

The education Department recommends that students take Praxis Core Exam upon

completion of English and Math general education requirements. In Nevada the passing

score for the Praxis Core Math test is 150, for the Reading test the score is 156, and

Writing is 162.

Exam Preparation

I honestly didn’t prepare before taking the Praxis Core exam. I read about the

exam my first semester at CSN, about two years ago. I also took a course last semester

that required me to do a practice test, which I must say I did much better on. Maybe

because I properly prepared and I knew what I was going into. Today I thought I was

completing a test for this course instead of the Praxis. I didn’t do the practice questions

from ETS. After reading the directions of the assignment I went looked at my old

quizzes, for about 30 minutes then started on the exam because after seeing everything I

had to do I knew I would be rushed( to finish the whole assignment).

Exam Results

Given my results for Reading (21%), Writing (40%), and Math (51%) on this

Praxis Core exam, I’m at risk of failing my official Praxis Core Exam if I don’t prepare.
Just writing the scores does something to me because I’m not okay with anything under

80% when it comes to my grades, but I had to make a choice, get the test done to the best

of my ability or finish this assignment. So, I must take the scores I earned and use them to

motivate me to prepare ahead of time.

Future Exam Preparation

I haven’t not already passed the official Praxis Core exam, I will start looking into

what I need to do to take the exam this summer, if I need to take the exam. I will look

research Ed Ready for math because I’m not sure what it is. I love math and I’m sure if I

take my time and read the questions, I will do fine on the math part of the exam. If I need

to register for Praxis Core Review courses at CSN I will. I wouldn’t purchase a study

book or online program to work through, I would look up things online, and/or ask co-

workers to tutor me that has already passed the exam. There isn’t any other preparation I

would do for this very important exam.
