- Radius (r_) is the distance between center

radius
- Diameter (d) is any chord that passes through the center of a circle

- Chord of a circle is any line segment whose end points are on the circle
Diameter

Radius ( R ) and diameter (d)

d
 D = 2r and r =
r
 Diameter is the longest chord of a circle
 Diameter is twice of the radius
 Radius is half of the diameter
Example 1: If the radius of a circle is 5cm long, then what will be the length of its
diameter?
Answer: d = 2r  d = 2(5cm) = 10cm
Example 2: I f the diameter of a circle is 12 cm, then what is the length of its radius?
d 12cm
Answer: r=  r= r= = 6cm
r 2
Activity – 6

a) r = 10 D =
b) r = 16 D=
c) r = 25 D=
2. Calculate the radius ® if
a) d = 18 r =
b) d = 40 r =
c) d = 100 r =

Unit – 7 Monday, April . 13/2020

Money
 Money is available in two forms
i) Coins ii) currency notes
 All Ethiopian coins are

1 cents (1c)
5 cents (5c)
10 cents 910c)
50 cents (50 c)
100 cents (100c)

 All Ethiopian currency notes are:

1 Birr ( Br. 1)
5 Birr (Br. 5)
10 Birr (Br. 10)
50 Birr (Br.50)
100 Birr (Br. 100)
Tuesday, April . 14/2020

Writing money in words and figures

Example: a) 23 Birr is written in short as Br. 23

b) 50 cents can be abbreviated as 50c

c) 45 Birr ad 25 cents can be abbreviated as Br. 45.25

d) 7 Birr and 5 cents can be abbreviated as Br. 7.05

Activity – 9

Abbreviate each of the following

i) 73 birr iii) 30 birr and 20 cents

ii) 15 cents iv) 15 birr and 5 cents

Page - 5
Wednesday , April . 15/2020
Activity – 10
Dear students, please do the
questions on pages 154-
156 on the book.

Conversion of Birr into 1c and 50c

Thursday , April . 16/2020
 Br. 1 = 100c

 Br. 1 = 2 x 50c

Example: 1 Br. 45 = 45 x 100c

= 4500c

Example: 2 How many 50 cents coins make up Br. 6?

Answer: The number of 50 cents coins in Br. 6 is 6 x 2 = 12. It means, 6 Birr has
equal value as 12 fifty cents coins.
Activity - 11
How many 50 cents coins make up
a) Br. 7 d) Br. 265
b) Br. 20 e) Br. 2000
c) Br. 890

Wednesday, , April . 22/2020

Week – 4

Conversion of Birr into 25c and 10c

 Br. 1 = 4 x 25 c
 4 twenty five cents coin have equal values 1 birr
 Br. 1 = 10 x 10c
 10 ten cents coin have equal value as 1 Birr

Examples. 1. How many 25 cents coins make up br. 8?

Answer: The number of 25 cents coins in Br. 8 is 4 x 8 = 32

It means, 8 birr has equal value as 32 twenty five cents

2. How many 10 cents coins make up Br. 8?

Answer: The number of 10 cents coins in Br. 78 is 8 x 10 = 80

It means, 8 birr has equal value as 80 ten cents coins.

Page - 6
Activity – 12

1. How many 25 cents coins make up

a) Br. 8 c) Br. 250

b) Br. 20 d) Br. 899

2. How many 10 cents coins make up
a) Br. 12 c) Br. 450
b) Br. 90 d) Br. 945

Thursday , April . 23/2020

Word problems using Ethiopian currency

Example: Abel earns Br. 130 per day. How much does he earn in 10 days?

Answer: Br. 130 x 10 = 1,300 Birr
