METHODOLOGY FOR GROOVE FILLING IN VDF

Material delivery and storage

The following materials will be deployed for the activity
a) Backer Rod
b) Primer- CG prime porous
c) Polysulphide Sealant –As per Approved material
d) Masking Tape
Resources / Manpower & Tools
The following tools and tackles will be required for this activity,
a) Wire brush
b) Air Blower
Methodology for Groove Filling in VDF
1. Isolate the work area by effective barricading.
2. Remove material stacked on VDF floor & clean the dust on floor thoroughly.
3. Remove the dust, mortar, dirt accumulated in the grooves by sharp edge
tool.
4. Run the diamond cutter through grove if hard material is stuck firmly in the
groove.
5. Clean the groove with wire brush first & then with air blower or with
compressed air nozzle.
6. Remove the dust thoroughly in the vicinity of work.
7. Insert PVC backer rod of 8 mm in the groove, in such a way that depth of
groove is maintained up to 8 mm.
8. Mop the sides of groove with wet cloth & fix masking tape on both sides of
groove.
9. Provide “CG prime porous” which is one component low viscosity primer on
both sides of groove up to top of backer rod, for effective bond of sealant with
concrete surface & allow the primer to dry.
10. Mix the pre packed two packs (APPROVED MATERIAL FOR FILLING)
Pour Grade Polysulphide with slow speed drill machine / mixer fitted with
spiral stirrer and mix for 10 minutes.
11. Pour the mixed sealant in the prepared groove, which will get self leveled
in the joint.
12. Remove the masking tape & finish the edge smooth using detergent
solution.
13. Cover the groove by placing PVC capping material to avoid accumulation
of dust on freshly placed sealant.
14. Allow the material to cure fully. (Usually it takes 4 to 6 hours for initial
curing & 4 to 5 days for full curing in case of exposed condition.) In covered
area it may vary based on temperature.
