Users’ considerations

The users of the app are mostly young members of society between the ages of 15 and

45. This is the demographic of the population that is more in tune with technology and can

better access services and information through the growing medium that is the Internet. It is

important to remember that the attention span of the user and how long they use the app at

any given moment is dependent on the quality of the user interface design of the mobile app.

The requirements that I need to meet to develop for this demographic include:

1. The need to develop the app and present it as a means for a user to achieve a specific

task. Each step in the process of a user utilizing the app should flow sequentially and

be intriguing. This means moving the user from one page to another within the app

without distracting their attention.

2. Efficient use of highlighting elements in the UI design

Considering how many clickable elements there are in an app, including buttons and

sliders, these elements should be designed to give the user an idea on how to interact

with them. E.g., using contrast colors and shadow effects beneath the animations and

buttons.

3. Alignment considerations

The proper alignment of app elements on a page is critical for enhancing the user

experience. For a mobile app, edge alignment is the best option.

4. Proper use of fonts

To obey the rule “functions come before form,” font determines how the users will

perceive the app and ultimately influences their decision to either keep the app or

uninstall it.

5. Color coordination
UI DESIGN 3

In the app design, it is important to pick the right balance of hues that apply to the

actual page contents of the app.

System considerations

For the mobile app, one has to take into account the end user’s device configuration.

The app is developed for both Android and iOS devices. This means that one has to use a

programming language that targets the specific platform, e.g., Swift and Objective-C for Ios

and Java/Kotlin for Android development. Alternatively, a cross-platform development

framework like Xamarin or Flutter can be used to create the app.

The choice of database backend also plays a significant role in maintaining user

attention. Users like apps that respond fast and efficiently to their queries, meaning that the

database should be fast and easily scalable.

Special access considerations

The app is intended to be cross-platform as well as easily adaptable to many device

screens. This means that the app interface has to be designed to fit on each device’s screen

and not merely stretch to fill the screen. Identifying the types of devices that will be used can

enhance the core user experience, e.g., mobile phones, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops.

Different screens require various input techniques, e.g., tapping, hovering, etc. Blind users

should also be able to interact with the app through simple voice commands.

Efficiency consideration

As a health and fitness application, the app needs to be extremely fast and responsive

to user interaction. Users require immediate feedback when they query the system for stats

such as calorie limits, blood pressure information, BMI indices information, etc. The app

should, therefore, be highly efficient and respond quickly, within acceptable limits.

User-friendliness consideration

To maintain user friendliness in the app design, icons are used to guide users. Icons

and logos add liveliness to bland backgrounds. Icons can draw the users in and guide their

actions without boring them. In addition to this, the app maintains user-friendliness by

enhanced device compatibility – it runs on all the popular mobile devices. The app also

automatically fetches updates to continue functioning even after a user updates their OS. The

mobile app also offers users the non-obtrusive option to purchase items from the in-app store,

including smart health-watches and calorie counters. Lastly, the app works by using color

efficiently and sparingly to de-clutter the interface.
