Pedagogy
Activity For this activity, the students will be using the App
“Inspiration Maps” to help plot out essay sections
when practicing for their SOL writing test.
1) The teacher will demonstrate to the
students how to download the “Inspiration
Maps” onto their phone from the app store.
2) The students will then take time to choose
an SOL essay prompt that they would like to
work on and believe they need to take more
time on.
3) The teacher well demonstrate how to use
the “Inspiration Map,” for example how to
change the color of the bubbles, the font,
add pictures, and create more bubbles.
4) Using the app, the students will make the

For this activity, the students will be using “Edmodo”
to interact with small groups while reading in book-
clubs.
1) The teacher will have the students split into
groups of 4-5, each group reading a different
book with a similar theme/genre.
2) The teacher will ask all students to
download the app called “Edmodo” that
they can access from both their laptop or
their phone.
3) The teacher will give the student the access
code to the classroom so each student can
be accepted into the class feed.
4) The teacher will create “small group” feeds
for each group, naming them after their
TLED 430
central bubble the main idea or prompt of
the essay, then the bubbles leading off will
be supporting ideas they could use in their
essay.
5) The teacher will show them that they can
move between formats as well, between the
bubbles and the lists, and use whichever
works better for them.
6) The students will use “Inspiration Map” to
create their draft for their SOL essay.
7) The teacher will say they can use it as a tool
for drafting the rest of their practice essays.

5) Throughout the unit, as the students read
through their books they will check in with
their group after each chapter. They will
post in their “Small group” Edmodo feeds
their inferences about the story and why,
what they liked and disliked, ideas they
have, and particular quotes that caught their
eye.
6) Each student will reply to their group
member’s posts with one comment about
something they agree/disagree on or
something they can connect their reading
experience to.
