1 SCOPE
This specification covers the materials for application in piping design.
2 PIPING MATERIAL CLASS CODIFICATION
2.1 Identification of Piping Material Classes
The 3 digit alphanumerical identification of the piping material classes is to be

used. The piping material class code number has the following composition:
XYZ, Where:
X - Identification digit defining pressure rating to ANSI B16.5 / ANSI B16.1
Y - Identification letter for the pipe material group
Z - Identification letter for the process fluid group inside the pipe

5 GENERAL NOTES
5.1 All materials and fabrication shall conform to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Code Division I and ANSI B 31.3. DIN Standard Flange for 1DU spec. to be used.
5.2 Each piping material class shall be used within its pressure and temperature range.
5.3 Vents and Drains
5.3.1 Piping high point vents not shown on the piping and instrumentation diagrams
shall be in accordance with the individual piping material class.
5.3.2 Piping low point drains not shown on the piping and instrumentation diagrams
shall be in accordance with the individual piping material class.
5.4 All materials shall meet the carbon content as indicated in the common notes and
the weight percent limits shall be checked by ladle analysis:
Carbon Equivalent (CE) = 0.45% max for CS Pipes & Fittings,

where CE = C+Mn/6 + (Cr + Mo + V) / 5 + (Cu + Ni) / 15
5.5 Full face gaskets shall be used for flat face (FF) flanged joints.
5.6 All piping classes should be read with reference to the serial nos. indicated in the
NOTES column of individual piping material classes. Details of the notes is
indicated under section COMMON NOTES, at the end of all piping material
classes.
5.7 Branch tables for all piping classes are indicated at the end of the specification.
However, deviations can be taken with proper approvals from the client.
5.8 Blinds and spacers should be as per Oiltanking standard for all pipe sizes.
