Team Building

Team work is recognized more as a collaborative effort by the members for the mutual

benefits of corporation and organization employee relations resulted as cooperation among the

team members. This signifies the role of effective team and its performance inside the

organizational premises. Team work defines the harmony and patience essential to be present in

members for the reason of achieving goals in association with team.

Team Building and Conflict Resolution

Conflicts reflect the difference in the opinions and ideas that may arise among the group

members either due to any cultural barrier or any other workplace hatred due to unequal

distribution of power and recognition for performance. Therefore it shows that individual work

related activities are subject to give raise to conflicts due to above stated actions (Maddux &

Wingfield, 2003). However, in any case if it arise, it is better to go for team building strategies

for conflict resolution with minimum emphasis on giving leverage for the expansion and

strengthening of conflict as it may enhance the differences among the employees followed by

decreasing productivity.

Team building exercise that I have chosen for the resolution of conflict inside the

organization is ‘Acid River’ which is a group based activity in which team members try to solve

a big puzzle under the supervision of a leader with visionary ideas as it requires unique way of

thinking to solve a puzzle. This activity focuses on making all members to think at same pace of

understanding with new ideas to reach the results; hence minimizing the extent of conflict within

the group while performing activity with positive responses and logical explanation to others’

views.

Thesis Statement:

Research can be down specifically to the conflicting resolution by collaborative attitude

building through group activities; making it useful in organization to avoid union based grouping

for the reason of enhancing employee productivity. Thus research statement can be concluded to

team building exercises role in managing conflict with vision of achieving organization goals

through employee involvement in collaborative decisions.

Procedure to Conduct Exercise

When it appears that conflict is generating at root level, for that reason it is better to solve

it with collaborative thinking which enables dissolution of conflict in the organization and makes

the alliance more oriented towards group efforts.

Exercise that I have prescribed would be conducted in a more simple way with proper

objectives to achieve thus requiring the understanding of implications to all involved people.

Employees will be divided in groups randomly; each group will be assigned a task to achieve

(puzzle in this case), they would be provided stuff used to solve the puzzle. Puzzle solving

involves the construction of a hut, creation of a tree house, or creating any other similar thing.

Limited material would be given to teams so that they can show efficient performance and better

utilize the resources. Activity performance will be measured by the time required by the team

and quality of stuff that they would produce. Positive rewards will be given to winning teams in

terms of certificates. Each member will adhere to another team member’s ideas to carry out the

activity and then coming up with the appropriate decision for next step to perform the activity;

series of collaborative decisions will produce the better result.

Team Building Exercise Outcome

The exercise mainly focuses on involvement of team members in the task by setting

individual differences apart that give rise to conflict. When people will work like a team; and

their efforts will be recognized by every member of team, they will try to find the reason which

prompt conflicting behavior and will try to solve it on their own before expressing it negatively.

This shows that people try to depress and eliminate their negative feelings when working in a

team; therefore providing convenient ways to organizational management to resolve the conflicts

at group level before it starts affecting the productivity and employee performance.

Team building activities give edge to employees in understanding their subordinates thinking

pattern and try to flourish the tasks with the mutual understanding of behavior therefore

suppressing the conflicts at initial level (ACCEL, 2009). This team building exercise gives each

employee to involve in the decision hence making each member equally responsible for the

outcomes of the decision (Dyer et al., 2007). Positively rewarding each employee for his work

performance and ideas enables the superiority for recognition of employee role in the team

suggesting the ways for achievement of power and lead configuring a person’s attitude as a

leader hence making his visionary role transform according to the situation for depicting equal

share of understanding both aspects.

Conclusion

The overall activity outcome signifies each employee’s role in solving conflict through

teamwork enabling the organization atmosphere to synchronize the conflict effect by

coordinating activity procedure among the employees making it productive while reducing the

barriers that influence on the decisions. The main outcome of the team building exercise makes it

simple to resolve conflict as team work performance is being monitored and employees are being

rewarded for their actions of achievement, hence when working together as team individual

differences are suppressed as main focus is on team achievement rather than raising conflicts;

thus making it of same preference for each member to understand thinking pattern and sub-

ordinate behavior according to his personality making it judgmental to ideas and views in

organization atmosphere.
