Unit 4 - Email Assignment

The best way to writing an email is to know the structure/ format of your email. You cannot
construct an email to your Spanish professor in a non-formal manor. The email has to suitable enough to
send to your professor and about your topic of interest. The email cannot be the same as if you were to
send an email to your friend or fellow classmate. The grammar, structure and word choice used has to
all be done in accordance. Words such as “yo, wassup, or how ya hanging? “should never be used.
When addressing an adult or teacher the more formal way to address them would be “Good morning,
how are you? Hope all is well, etc.” This is important because there are different grammars that we use
for different classes of people. Meaning that you will not talk to your parents the same way as you talk
to your friends/ peers. Formality is used to show articulation and respect towards adults. Ok, now that
we have talked about the formality and word choice of writing an email to your Spanish professor, let’s
talk about the structure of the email. First, you would always want to start off the email with an asunto,
which means a subject. The subject is a brief summary in a few words of what your email is about. Next,
you would always like to greet your professor, such as “Estimado Prof. Hobbs”, which is referred to as
the saludo apropriado. Then, you would need to start message or mensaje for better words. The
message should include both an introduction and your purpose for the email. Last, the email must have
a closure and formal farewell called the Cierre y/o Despedida. Finishing off with your name so the
professor remembers you. I know that this is all a lot of information for you to retain all at once so I
would go ahead and provide you with an example of all. Below, you will find a formal example email to
my professor in Spanish to help assist you in the learning process. Wish you the best of luck and hope
you get it done pact.
