A tiny spark can create a change....


One day my Friend Rajput ji & Dinesh Agarwal told me that an NGO ANN BANDHU is serving
food to the Needy people at Rs 6/- per plate Rice Dal and Subjee at Sishu Mangal Hospital.I met
with the Trustees of Ann Bandhu Sri J.P Agarwal & Sri Gopi Agarwal agreed to provide the food
on the condition it can't be distributed FREE We have to Charge Rs 6/- per plate and they will
provide food @ 6/- per plate. I visualised the service and decided to do this activity at P. G
Hospital. Food Hawkers Resisted. I talked to local councillor and he suggested to do at
Sambhunath Hospital and assured assistance. Our thanks to the councillor with whose support
the project began. The kitchen of Ann Bandhu modernised as well as mechanised. They prepare
and distribute food for nearly 2000. The food is delivered in hot boxes to keep it hot at the time
of service.
The project is running successfully with the support of Lions North who are taking care of the
project. Till now more than one lakh peoples like peons, Security guards, Sweeper, Mutia
Majdoor etc are served. Another centre N.S Road began and now we are serving more than 500
Needy people Per day at Lunch time 12.30 to 1.30 p.m.

On August 10, 2019, during the 57th convocation of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay,
Dr. Niraj Satnalika (son of Shri Debi Prasad Satnalika and Smt. Deepa Satnalika from Raniganj, West
Bengal) was conferred upon the degree of Ph.D. by the institute upon the recommendation of the senate.
Satnalika did a Ph.D. in the field of finance from the School of Management, IIT Bombay, and his thesis
topic was Corporate Governance.
Before completing Ph.D., he completed a PGDM in Finance (International Business) from Institute of
Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad - a premier B-school in the country. He was also selected as a
panelist for the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations and got an opportunity to
represent the nation at the conference held in Taipei, Taiwan in 2012. Dr. Niraj also holds a Bachelors
Degree in Technology in the field of Electronics and Instrumentation from Heritage Institute of
Technology, Kolkata.
Niraj has a deep interest in a social cause, and his interest to serve the people motivated him to start a
non-profit non-government organization, Babulal Nagarmal Satnalika Foundation, in the memory of his
late grandfather. The trust works towards promoting elementary and computer education amongst the
underprivileged and has helped over 100 children till date by providing scholarships. Also, the trust has
set-up over 25 computers in and around Raniganj (two centers are in association with Lions Club of
Raniganj) and has touched the lives of around 500 children from the coal belt.
Currently, Niraj is settled in Pune and is working with a leading media house in the Chairman's office.

Spinach Paneer Dumplings in Tomato Basil


Gravy : Ingredients :
Paneer- 250 gms, Spinach - one small bundle, Tomatoes- 4 big size, Basil
leaves- Few leaves in twig, Ginger- A piece into paste Ajawain and Carom
seeds - A Pinch, Cornflour- 2 Table spoons, Green chillies- 2 pieces paste,
Cream- 2Tbsp, Salt -Acc to taste. Oil - two tsp.
Method: Boil tomatoes cool and shred the peel. Grind in mixer and keep
aside. Slit chillies deseed them and keep aside. Wash and pat dry basil leaves
and keep aside..make ginger paste. Now mash paneer. Cut spinach very
thinly and mash with paneer, add salt and take spoons of corn flour and
chilly paste, add to mash and start making small tikki like dumplings. Keep
putting in steam utensil or flat channi or sieve. Now put this dumpling filled
sieve on top of A water filled utensil and cover it and steam for ten minutes.
After ten minutes cool it by removing lid and now start making gravy. Take
some olive oil or refined oil in non stick pan. Add ajawain or carom seeds
and let them split..Add ginger paste and fry till golden add grinded tomatoes
in fried ginger paste and add little water .Within a minute add basil leaves
with salt. Let it boil and bring to a thick consistency. Add the slit chillies.
Now add the cooled down paneer and spinach dumplings into the boiling
gravy. boil for two mintues. Put it in the seeing bowl adding cream in style
on top with two leaves of basil as garnish and serve with rice or paranthas.

With principal object ‘to help economically challenged boys and girls to become self-reliant and self-dependent through skills
training’, it started the centre in 1978 with ‘Embroidery-Tailoring-Knitting’ section with active initiative of Mrs. Ava Bagchi
wife of Ex-Lion R. N. Bagchi (who served as Club President during 1986-87) at their residence at 38B, Raja Dinendra Street, in
Manicktola area in North Calcutta. This was the only centre of its kind in the locality. Shortly it added to it ‘Typing &
Stenography’ section.
Subsequently, the Centre moved to a new spacious accommodation of 500 sq. ft. at Yogipara Main Road and 150 sq. ft at 93/1,
Garpar Road, near Manicktola Telephone Exchange/Raja Dinendra Street, with improved ambience and additional training
facilities of present day’s essential skills development i.e., Computer and Spoken English.
For Computer skills training the centre tied up with eminent, experienced well recognized organization in the field, LCC and
offer basic, advanced and accounting package – Tally. English Speaking course also has different levels viz., basic, Intermediate
and post Intermediate.
This is a multidisciplinary skills training centre ranging from ‘Embroidery-Tailoring-Knitting’ to ‘Computer education’ to
‘Spoken English’ under one roof. Annually the centre trains 200–250 girl students on ‘Embroidery-Tailoring-Knitting’, about
200 boys and girls in Computer learning and about 120 students in ‘Spoken English’ courses.
Tuition : In the year 2018 'Tution Classes' were also started to benefit students of all ages. Tutions are given to 20-25 students
for their higher studies and to achieve success in the examination.
Students Motivation : Cultural Programme are organised for the students from time to time and certificates presented to the
students on their excellent performance.

Lions Club of Calcutta have taken the initiative to celebrate a unique celebration. Each
month, birthday of orphaned children are celebrated along with the members of the
lions club, whose birthday comes during that month. In this festival, we cut cake with
the children, celebrate with the performances from the band, dancing and singing to
the tune of music. Hygienic Kit and gifts including soap, toothpaste and hair oil and

Happy to share with all members of district that Zone VI successfully completed their
1st DG Advisory meeting at Hindustan Club on 20.9.19 at 6pm.
All PST's introduced themselves & spoke about their completed projects in the ongoing
Lionistic year & their upcoming plans along with data of induction of new members by
them respectively.
Lions club of Calcutta Chetna's President, Pratibha Shah, briefed the gathering about
the club's fund raising program Prayas. Also shared was their successful participation in
Heart that Care Project. Food for hunger was done at dhapa for more than 200 children
by the club members. She also announced the club's plans for going with the district in
shifting thalassemia unit from Waterloo Street to lions blood bank and have sponsored
blood for 100 thalassemia patients under District project. Last but not the least, with great excitement it was announced that they
will sponsor one day food for twelve months in the district's forthcoming project *Annapurna ki Rasoi*.
Lions club of Hasting's President Ram Chandraji Badapolia appraised members that their club has a permanent project of
community marriage, which they are holding since many years. Every year more than hundred marriages are done from different
community with their rituals and beliefs. In this lionistic year, it will be held on 2nd February 2020 at Nandkutir. They have also
started the distribution of dry ration to 250 senior citizen who are not able to help themselves physically and financially. They
have also started Haate Bazaare with support from the district last year.
Binod Guptaji, Secretary of Lions club of Howrah Steel City told that they begun their lionistic year with We Serve motto where for
the entire month of Saawan of the Hindu calender they served sharbat and food to devotees along with first aid help. Two new
members have been inducted by them.
Amar Agarwal, President of Lions club of Calcutta Central told that till date they have done 5 food distribution program in
different places like old age home, Sealdah bridge and it's near by, Bhootnath temple, Kali temple in Kolkata.
Lion Alka Jhunjhunwala President of LC Maansarovar shared that they are running a Lions Eye Care Centre at Behala, where
regularly eye screening and eye care is done. They will also be actively participating in Dry ration project, which is distributed to
250 needy family ,who are unable to support themselves physically as well as financially. They frequently organise food for hunger
project and this time they served more than 100 children of lighthouse for the blind school, near Tollygunge. So far they have
inducted 2 members this year.
IZC Sonia Puri appraised members about District projects, activities and training programs etc. She also outlined the 5 areas in
which all clubs need to take up projects which are the District's key service areas. Soniaji engaged members in an interactive
session on District Training programs where members could enhance their Leadership skills. Last but not the least she asked all
clubs to come forward and participate in Haate Bazaare and Dandiya to be held during Durga Puja at The Park. All clubs
immediately gave their sponsorship to support Haate bazaare and promised to book passes for Dandiya.
18 members from the different clubs of zone, along with the GLT, GMT and GST were present.
A joint zonal fund raising project was also discussed and agreed.
New Leo club from zone was also discussed with 10% over all growth from the zone. At least 4 new MJF from zone was promised
too. Overall the meeting was encouraging

was appreciative of all who could make it. He mentioned that all clubs in Zone VIII
were working very well though some clubs were not reporting in Zone VIII group
.They were requested to report there as well and inform Editor of District
magazine MIRROR about the activities of each club for coverage. He specially highlighted that SERVIKA, new club, only two
months old but has been working very well and participating in all activities of District. GMT emphasied on membership drive and
incentives of District Scheme. Lions HOWRAH, ROSHNI AND SERVIKA agreed for minimum 5 members net growth . IZC
highlighted about Schemes of District for various activities and also encouraged members to attend Leadership programs of
District. Each Club talked about the service and fellowship activities in July to Sept. ZC opined that all seem to be on an overdrive

GMT - Z Lion Rajesh Agarwalla announced that the Presidents of the clubs adding
three or more new Members will be awarded. He further announced that PSTs of those
clubs adding five or more members or a new club will be awarded. He requested to all
Leaders of the Clubs to fulfil the membership target according to the earlier
commitment.
Detail discussion regarding the service activities (Diabetes detection, annapurna ki rasoi, vision problem, pediatric cancer, clean
environment were done. GST-Z Lion Asim Kumar Dutta advised the members to take part actively by district support.
In absence of GLT-Z Lion Manab Sain, Zone Chairperson Lion Rabindra Nath Paul advised the members to attend the YLLI training
Programme which will be Performed at Krishnagar & Iskcon on Sept, Nov & Dec respectively

1st DG Advisory Committee Meeting on 06-08-2019 at Kalpana Lodge, Fulia, Nadia.
ZC-Lion Dr Utpal Chakraborty welcomed all the Club Leaders of 6 Clubs namely-
Lions Clubs of Krishnagar Sampark, Nabadwip, Santipur, Santipur West, Fulia and
Ranaghat Plassey. Attendence - 26 (Twenty Six) Lions from the Clubs. ZC initiated
discussion after observing Silence for World Peace. He clarified the reporting format
of Global Action Team (GAT) in detail and requested all Presidents to submit their club
report within 10 days. He discussed about LLC Modules and requested Club Leaders
to take necessary steps so that all members can complete the course. He highlighted
the importance of General Meetings for retention of Members. He named this meeting
as Mini Governor Meeting and asked the leaders to raise any issue or problem which requires the attention of District Governor
and assured them to convey the same to DG. GLT discussed about the various training programmes such as RLLI, DLLI & YLLI and
its importance. He focused on e-Clubhouse. GST discussed about the priority services of LCI and also spoke about the assistance of
District services. IZC discussed about the Club Dues and requested all clubs to clear their dues and take the advantage of earning
points. He also discussed about various schemes for New Club, Scholarship, Environment, Sanitory napkin Vending Machine,
Diabetes Detection, Blood Grouping etc. He also discussed importance to reporting through MyLCI and MyLion and requested all
clubs to report in time without fail. He also informed that any activities done by the Clubs should be informed to the District along
with photographs. Presidents discussed their Plans & Activities and also proposed the followings: Thalassemia Test for school
students: 50% assistance from District, Diabetes detection- 50% matching grant from District., Blood grouping: Rs 10/- per head
support from District. Tree Plantation: President of Santipur West suggested to involve school students to plant and save trees
with District support. Club Administrator of Krishnagar Sampark requested to incorporate the post “Club Administrator” in
Officers Manual of LCI. ZC thanked all leaders and specially thanked Fulia Club for organizing the venue and Lion Rudra Nath
Chatterjee, CAO of Krishnagar Sampark for official support to the meeting. Meeting closed in time.

Leo club of Kolkata Sanchetna


Leo Club of Kolkata Sanchetna, the youth wing of Lions Club of
Calcutta Sanchetna, district 332B1 feels privileged to be a part
of the Leo family.The underpriviledgekid here live in the
outskirts of the city in a slum in Newtown. The NGO helped
them with education, clothes and other essentials but the basic
necessities of life - health and hygiene maintenance leo club of
kolkata Sanchetna re not focussed upon.Our main aim was to
try and improve the health and hygiene of the girls undergoing
the menstruation cycle and to make them used to the habit of
sanitary napkins instead of cloths and cottons. leo club of
kolkata Sanchetna wanted to inbuild in them a sense of
empoleo club of kolkata Sanchetna rment and that there is
nothing wrong in this. It is nothing to be shy about.

Leo club of Kolkata Disha


Leo club of Kolkata Disha this year took an initiative to take a
step towards betterment of the society, There first event pehel
was conducted in a slum area in howrah in which they
distributed 50 mosquito nets to underprivileged people
affected by dengue and malaria due to water logging in the
area.Followed by a session with children over a cup of hot
chocolate where they visited a poorly managed primary school
to have a session with them and engage them into certain fun
activities, they prepared hot chocolate for the kids and
distributed stationery to them.

Leo club of Midtown Glory


Leo Midtown Glory marked it's presence with its first service
activity at the Asian Sahyogi Sanstha India.It had been a
memorable ride as it was the first time we met these childern
and almost longed for the next meeting. We distributed food
packets and had organised certain games for them as well.The
first activity was a success and the club recieved The Best Debut
Activity Award at Leo Utsav.Leo Midtown Glory decided to meet
these children again and organise yet another service activity.
The club's second activity was organised at Asian Sahyogi
Sanstha India as we all had made a strong bond with all these
childern and decided to take it forward.

The Leo Club of Kolkata Royals distributed 560+ bio degradable
sanitary napkins to underprivileged girl students of Tollygunge
Adarsha Hindi High School, on the 24th of August,2019. Along
with the distribution we conducted a seminar on safe &
hygienic menstruation care,Our male members actively
participated in the distribution of the napkins.

Leo Club of Kolkata Greater


Leo Club of Kolkata Greater held a health and eye check-up
camp for the children ageing from 6-16 at The Calcutta Social
Project School, Hazra. The club has co- sponsored the Play- on, a
Leo District 322b1event collectively with Leo Club of Calcutta
New Alipore, Leo Club of Calcutta Park Avenue, Leo Club of
Kolkata Paradise and Leo Club of Kolkata Nav Vikas. The club
has also volunteered for the Suicide Awareness debate
organized by the Lions Club of Calcutta Greater.

Leo Club Of Kolkata Host


Leo Club Of Kolkata Host conducted it first event on 15.06.19 in
which they served orange squash to all the workers, labourers
to help t hem b ea t t he scorchin g hea t . The numb er of
beneficiaries were 2500. Leo Club Of Kolkata Host had
conducted the event "Pannah" on 25.08.19 in which they had
distributed umbrellas to all the needy people to help them
during the torrenial rainy season. The number of beneficiaries
were 100.Leo Club of Kolkata Host and Leo Club of Calcutta
organised the event "Tete-a- Tete" on 23.08.19 where they had
a interactive session with Mr Santosh Singh where the main
theme was mental health and emotional well being. It was a
great learning session for all of us.Leo Club Of Kolkata Host
conducted the event on 29.09.19 ,where they distributed
gloves, masks and flip flops to the sweepers. Their main aim was
to help these sweepers who work so hard for the cleaniness of
our society. The number of beneficiaries were 50.

Leo Club Of Kolkata Paradise


An event was conducted on the 30th Of September
They donated new clothes to sixty children, gave chocolates and
juices to them. The event was at Federation Of Advancement Of
Disabled And Underprivileged Children (FADUC) at 19/1
Manoharpukur Main Road.
Clothes and accessories for all ages, home utilities for ladies and
toys for kids were sold at a nominal cost to 200 people
(counted) at the Vidyanjali International School near Northern
Park.They also initiated an activity to serve lunch at a
construction sight. Lunch was served to 50 construction
workers.They served home made food to 25 girls of SOS
Children's Village Orphanage on the 20th September.The
Children were also served with fruits, sweets and coldrinks.

Leo Club of Calcutta Downtown


Events: Leoistic year of 2019-20 started on 1st july 2019. We
visited specially abled kids home at Prabhartak Sangha and
distributed them food and talked to them. "Comfortable shoes
and the freedom are the freedom to leave are the two most
important things in life" -Shel Silverstein; Next event, we
distributed slipers to the daily wage workers. We visited
specially abled kids home and distributed food under "one day,
one meal" and also donated accucheck diabeties machine with
extra strips along with extra strips along with adult diapers.
Policemen are the public servants those who have stand in
harsh summertime heat and chiling winter nights but still
people look at them with hate so we decided to do something for
them, we distributed 80 goodie bags with things like water,
biscuits, face towel, ORS, etc in them. These were distributed in
Burra Bazar, Girish park, Maniktalla Bagmari outpost and
Jorabagan outpost areas. Tarkeshwar did our flagship event for
the 4th consecutive year. They did SEWA i.e. served food, did
medication for holy devotees of shiv for whole night, during the
month of savan. Independence day was celebrated under
AASHAYE with underprivileged children at Lions Safari Park.
We distributed sweets, bags, and stationary to them. On the 1st
of september tree plantation drive took place to contribute
towards nature. On 14th of september we did DAYADAAN to an
orphanage of autistic and donated maggie, surf, dettol, etc. For
APNABAZAAR event leo club presented 'Bhangar Wala' as a
helping hand to leo club of Calcutta. We collected bottles,, cans
and other recyclable products and sell them in 'Bhangar' and
the amount was donated to APNABAZAAR. MAHALAYA
happened pend on 28th september to feed those who feed us.
On this auspicious day we fed GAU MATA who is not only a
sacred animal but called as MAA. This rehabilitation event for
cow was completely successfully and efficiently.

Leo Club of Kolkata A-One City


Leo Club of Kolkata A-One City started its leoistic year 2019-20
with TARANG, a fun-fiesta on 7th July 2019 for 50 orphans
where the club members held game stalls and the children were
free to enjoy themselves. They were awarded gifts for their
wins. They were also provided with refreshments and goodie
bags. The event ended with a lot of happy faces and smiles.

Lions District 322B1 Confers PID Prem Lahoty
with a Life Time Achivement Award.
It was 21st July 2019 and the venue was ITC Royal Bengal. thousands of hands
joined together with the thunder when the name of Lion Prem Lahoti was
announce by master of ceremonies for Life Time Achievement Award. Entire
district Led by District Governor Lion Pawan Parasrampuria along with visiting
International Director, Past International Directors presented a plaque to Lion
Lahoti for his contribution towards Lionism. It is a privilege for the Dist. 322B1
in honouring Lion Prem Lahoti. A very known person in the field of Lionism for
years together yet there are thousands new members who may not be well averse with the personality of Lion Mrem Lahoti.
For them we take pride in introducing the legend of Lionism
PREM LAHOTY PAST INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR
Prem Lahoty, of Kolkata, India, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of the International Association of Lions
Clubs from 2000 to 2002.
Past Director Lahoty is a businessman and has tea estates and other businesses in Assam,
A Lion since 1972 and a member of the Calcutta Midtown Lions Club since 1976, Past Director Lahoty has held many offices
within the association, including club president, district governor and cabinet secretary. He was the Editor of the Indian
Edition of the Lion magazine for many years. He was the Honorary Chair for the 2017 Area Forum held at Kolkata. He served
as the Chairman of the organising committee when the International Board Meeting was held in Kolkata in 2005.
In recognition of his service to the association, Past Director Lahoty has received numerous awards, the 100% District
Governor award, Fifteen International President's Awards, an Extension Award and the Ambassador of Good Will Award,
the highest honor granted by the association to its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lion activities, Past Director Lahoty is a member of several community groups.
Past Director Lahoty and his wife, Saveeta, have three daughters and eight grandchildren.

is a great initiative and one of the noblest project taken up
by Lions District 322 B1. Here we sponsor bypass, open heart
Spine and brain surgery ( at Mediça , Park Clinic and Desun) for the
poorest of the poor, or for those needy people who cannot afford a life
saving operation of their loved ones. We are reaching out to people who
would have died had we not arranged for timely medical intervention.
Earnestly request more members to join this drive and reach out to
those patients whose life can be
saved through you. Requesting you to
be a part of this noble project . To
know more please feel free to call the chairperson. Hearts that care is a group
formed by those Lions who are ready to contribute Rs. 25000/- yearly to help the
poorest of the poor or those needy people who cannot afford a life saving operation
of their loved ones. Here we sponsor the open heart surgery which does not include
stent, bypassSpine and brain and no emergency cases.
