Once you have made two fins, you will sew the fins together
with the openings facing each other. You should end up with 8
open stitches on each fin. You will sew together 4 stitches of
each fin. You will insert your hook and yarn over and this will be where you crochet around the
remaining stitches between the fins and reach the beginning of the body.

Close up fins:
Dc, Sc 5, Dc, Sc 7, Dc, Sc 7, Dc. This
should look
like this:

The body will continue in rounds from here. Stuff the body firmly as you go.
Body:
1-2. sc 12
3. (sc 2, 1 inc) 6 times
4. sc 18
5. sc 3 (At this point you want to mark your stitch. This indicates the separation between the
back and the belly.)

7. sc 13, inc, sc 6 (24 stitches)
8-10. sc 24

30-50. Sc 54.
From here we are going to decrease on the belly, and increase on the top. This will start to form
the head. Make sure to pay attention to the order of increases, decreases, or single crochets as
that adds to the shape of the head.
51. (sc 3, inc) 6 times, (sc 3, dc) 6 times (54 stitches)
52. (inc, 3 sc) 6 times, ( 2 sc, 1 dc) 6 times (54 stitches)

rows above the
opening.
67. (2sc, 1 dc) 3 times (12 stitches)
68. (dc) 6 times. Close. At this point you
can add come color around the eyes with some
brown of black eyeshadow and a small brush.
I just rim the bottom inside of eye towards where
the nose will be and set it with hair spray.

Snout:

1. Chain 9
2. Turn, sc 8
3. 2nd chain from the hook sc 5, dc, ch 1 and turn (6 stitches)
4. dc, 2 sc, dc (4 stitches)
At this point of the nose, we will crochet around the edges to form the nose shape.
5. 3 sc down the left side, 3 sc in corner stitch, sc 6 across bottom edge, 3 sc in corner, sc 4 (21
stitches)
6-8. Sc 21. Finish. Leave tail for sewing.
Insert safety nose at the “peak” of the nose in the 2nd row.
I stuff the nose as I sew it to the face.
The nose will be place in between the eyes be sews straight around to the edges to the face.
There is really no manipulating that needs to be done. After the nose is sewn on, I embroider a
mouth with a straight line down from the tip of the safety nose, down a
stitch, and then a straight line across about 4 stitches long. I also add
some brown eyeshadow
to the sides of the snout around the nose to mark
where whiskers would be. White harp seals have
black marks near the eyes like eyebrows and I added
those with embroidery thread.

Eyelids
1. Chain 7
These are sewn around the top half of the eye. Position is really up to you. But I go from about
the middle of the eye on each side.

Front fins (Make 2)

1. Mc 6
2. Inc 6 times (12 stitches)
3. (1 sc, inc) 6 times (18 stitches)
4. (2 sc, inc) 6 times (24 stitches)
5. (3 sc, inc) 6 times (30 stitches)
6-8. sc 30
9. (3 sc, dc) 6 times (24 stitches)
10-11. sc 24
12. (2 sc, dc) 6 times (18 stitches)
13-15. Sc 18
Flatten fin and single crochet across to close. Leave tail for sewing.
Sew fins close to where the shaping for the head starts and in line with the bottom of the eyes.

I like my seals fluffy so I brush them all over with a pet slicker brush. If you prefer a more sleek
looking seal you can skip this step. After the fins are attached you are done. Enjoy your baby
seal!
