Concept Note for projects on Agricultural Research and Extension are invited on identified
priority areas, to be supported from fund created under UPCAR, from competent scientists working in
agriculture and allied fields in government organizations/ institutions/ universities of the state. The last
date of receipt of concept note is March 30, 2020 and must be submitted through proper channel in five
hard copy. The details are available on UPCAR website www.upcaronline.org.

IDENTIFIED PRIORITY AREAS


A. CROP IMPROVEMENT
1. Development and identification of improved genotype(s) of sesame and safflower.
2. Understanding the genetic basis of grain quality, nutrition and aroma in traditional land races of
rice of U.P. and their improvement for yield and lodging.
3. Development of parthenocarpic cucumber genotype(s) for protected cultivation.
4. Development of carotene rich pumpkin lines/hybrids suitable for powder making and other
value added products.
5. Collection and screening of water chestnut and water spinach genotype(s) for yield and disease
resistance.
6. Development of ‘Quality Protein Maize’ single cross hybrids.
B. NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
7. Enhancing N and P use efficiency for wheat and rice using microbial inoculants.
8. Development of microbial consortia for alleviation of salt and water stress.
9. Development of rainwater harvesting and its utilization by various models in crop production in
water deficit areas with special emphasis in horticultural crops.
10. Impact of highways pollution on vegetables and fruit crops.
11. Design, development, fabrication and optimization of silo/hoppers and segregators for cereals
and food grains.
12. Evaluation of carbon sequestration potential under various land use systems in different agro-
climatic zone of U.P. to mitigate the effect of climate change.
13. Exploitation of solar energy for minimizing the cost of production.
14. Proper management of paddy straw to minimize the pollution problem through cultural
practices and development of low cost equipments.

C. HORTICULTURE
15. Quantification of yield enhancement in mustard, vegetables and mango through honey bees and
their impact on non-farm income.
16. Collection, evaluation and utilization of underutilized locally available germplasms of
vegetables.
17. Utilization of under-storey spaces in existing orchards with grasses.
18. Development and validation of export protocol in mango.
19. Canopy management in mango, guava and bael.

D. CROP PROTECTION
20. Management of phytoplasmal disease in vegetab le crops (brinjal, tomato, chilli, cucurbits)
21. Studies on nano-fungicides and their efficacy against different seed borne pathogens.
22. Devising novel strategies in the management of orthotospoviruses infecting vegetable crops in
India.
23. Wide area management of fruit fly (Bactocera cucubitae) in cucurbits.
E. ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRY
24. Development of suitable dual purpose chicken strains for backyard poultry with integration of
genes of native breeds.
25. Impact of acaricidal resistance on tick and tick born disease: mitigation strategies for acaricidal
resistance.
26. Antibiotic drug residues in poultry products and their management in context of human health
concern.
27. Rapid field oriented detection kit for adulteration in milk and milk products.
28. Integrated parasitic management in small ruminant.
29. Develop/standardize technologies to enhance digestability and nutritional efficiency of paddy
straw to use as animal feed and dissemination of available technologies among the farmers.
30. Develop improved technologies (less painful) for castration of male animals.
31. Develop measures and techniques for sterilization of vanrose & other wild animals.
F. FISHERIES
32. Development of indigenous feeds/rations and feed additives for cultured fishes.
G. AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS
33. Market chain analysis for fodder and green manure crop seeds.
34. Study/assessment of average farmers' income in different jurisdiction of SAUs.

H. AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION
35. Deployment of I.C.T. tools (m-extension, e-portals, Kiosks, artificial intelligence for
information management) in agricultural research and extension system.

I. POST HARVEST MANAGEMENT AND VALUE ADDITION


36. Commercialization of mango based products in PPP mode.
37. Refinement of packaging technology of mango for commercial adoption.

Guidelines and Conditions
1. Concept note/projects must be formulated as per the conditions given in U.P. Govt.
office order no. 226/67-d`f'kv-14-700(29)02 dated 24 January, 2014 (copy of the
order annexed).
2. Last date of receipt of concept note is 30.03.2020.
3. Concept note should be submitted in five hard copies on the prescribed format
(annexed).
4. Principal Investigator whose concept notes are found suitable for detailed proposals
will be communicated through UPCAR website upcaronline.org.
5. Duration of the research projects will be of three years.
6. Maximum cost of research projects will be 25 lacs. However, attempt to unjustifiably
make the budget reach 25 lacs will draw negative valuation.
7. The cost and duration of the proposals other than the research project proposals will
depend on the nature of the activities.
8. The competent authority reserves its right to accept or reject any concept note/project
or part of the project without assigning any reason.
9. All disputes will be subject to Lucknow jurisdiction only.
10. In case of any dispute regarding interpretation of any clause, the decision of
competent authority shall be final.

completed and funded by UPCAR, ICAR or any other organization, and

more than 5 pages then it will not be considered (synopsis should be 1.15 spaces, 12
