Ishaan Awasthi is an eight year-old boy who is suffering from dyslexia, a neurological

disorder. He is having a trouble recognizing letters, can hardly read and write. Letters and
numbers are written invertedly and words are commonly misspelled. He can not follow
multiple instructions and has poor motor skills. Being different from other normal growing
children, he is always thought to be dumb, idiot and lazy. His teachers, classmates,
neighbors and even his own family did not realize what he is going through.

In the boarding school where he was sent to be disciplined, his self confidence was
shattered. He suffered trauma due to separation from his family. His passion for drawing
and painting was totally gone.

Ishaan became so aloof, cold and indifferent from his classmates. This showed that the
concept of “ trust “during his developmental years based on Erik Erikson’s of Psycho-social
theory, was not attained and established because of  rejection of  people around him.

Until Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a substitute art teacher came to school and able to recognize
his special needs. Ishaan’s other teachers thought that he has to be dealt in special
education program not to be placed in the mainstream. But, Ram insisted that even special
child has the right to formal and quality education as what the “ EFA”- Education for All
Policy  holds. Ram believes that every child has his own capabilities, desires and pace of
learning.

Ram helped Ishaan how to manage deficiencies brought about by being dyslexic. Ram was
able to unveil the potentials of Ishaan by employing educational psychology. Appropriate
intervention measures like constant practice, drills and problem solving were given to
Ishaan. This confirms the theory of operant conditioning by Frederick Skinner. A person can
be trained by presenting a reward or punishment as a consequence of his actions. Ishaan
was stimulated and conditioned to learn because of the immaterial reward of being
accepted, cared, valued and loved by his teacher, Ram. This specific scene in the movie had
causedme to cry in the nth times and realize the goodness of one’s heart.

Ram understood Ishaan’s mental capacities and innate behavior because he went through
the same experience and struggles being dyslexic during his childhood days.

There should be social consciousness on individual differences. Even Ishaan’s parents,

teachers and the community were not aware of this particular kind of disorder. The society
plays a vital role in child’s development. Thus, it has to be sensitive and responsive
especially for those who have special needs. Criticisms and prejudices should be
discouraged for the child to overcome his difficulties.

As a teacher, I realize that substantial knowledge about Psychology is indispensable tool in

the field of teaching profession. Every learner has its own pace of learning with different
weaknesses. So, the teacher has to be creative in employing teaching strategies to be able
to cater the needs of every learner.

The movie is indeed very good, appropriate and reflective as I journey more years of being
a student.

"Every child are innocent when born, they are special in many things and in different ways.  They
should be treated well and love them without condition. Not all children are normal some are
special in their own way.  In other words they are called special child, wherein in our normal
world we found them incapable of doing things which normal child can do. “Every Child is
Especial” is a movie that will teach us the real meaning of love and acceptance, a movie that will us
cry and laugh and will enlighten our heart that every child should be value no matter who they are
or what they are. Let’s take a little recall of the story."

SUMMARY:
The movie is all about a child whom at first misjudges, misunderstood and
mistreated it was later on when someone discover his talent the treatment of people who
step on him suddenly changed into positive.  To begin, there was a nine year old boy named
Ishaan who have reading and writing disorder which is called dyslexia but no one notice it
including his family.

He is a kind of child who loved playing with animals but hate reading books. He
always gives headache to his parents as well as teachers. It seems like no one understand
his situations. During his class in English subject, he was asked by his teacher to read one
of the chapters from the book. Instead of reading, he told his teacher that the words were
dancing. The teacher was disappointed on him for not participating and studying so he sent
out. Ishaan then skip all his classes out of experiencing rage from his teacher and roam
alone on the street. In order to attend his class the following day, he asked his brother
Yohan to make an excuse letter. His math teacher permitted him to attend class but he has
no idea that they will have an exam.  Out of 20 items he only answers item one
unfortunately incorrect because his mind is busy imagining. On the same day his father
found out the fake excuse letters that lead them to know that Ishaan skipped his class. The
following day his parents met his teachers, they learned that Ishaan’s grades might fail
again.
Out of frustration Mr. Awashti (Ishaan’s Father) decided to send Ishaan in a boarding
school. His mother and brother strongly opposed to that idea but no one make his father’s
mind change, and so his things were packed and sent him to that school.

His stay on that school makes him feel unworthy. He even experienced beaten on his
hand by his Art teacher. He was traumatized by his teachers, he was called idiot and all
hurtfully words he received it. For his teachers his nothing but an idiot they were so upset.
He was depressed and mad when their new art teacher came their previous teacher move
and teaches in different country. Mr. Ram Shankar Nikumbh is the name of the new art
teacher. Mr. Nikumbh made a playful entrance, everybody seems enjoying except Ishaan.
When he instructed the class to draw he noticed that Ishaan is not participating, that make
him concludes that Ishaan have a problem.  In other case, Family Awashti visits Ishaan
once in a blue moon because of that he didn’t care anymore. He was immune with that.

Out of curiosity, Mr. Nikumbh was interested to know some details about Ishaan. He
discovered that Ishaan have difficulties in reading and in writing. He scans that notebook of
Ishaan then he noticed that all the words are written backwards. He explains to Ishaan’s
family that the child is showing the symptoms of Dyslexia, a reading and writing disorder
wherein Mr. Nikumbh once experienced. That is the reason why Ishaan’s have trouble in
studying. His family could not accept the fact especially his father.

Mr. Nikumbh suddenly discovered something special in Ishaan’s talent. One of this
was his drawings and the other is the boat he made when the class was sent out to the
classroom. The Art teacher was surprised as well as his classmates. In this matter he asked
the school principal that he want to teach Ishaan and the principal approved his request. He
never gets tired of teaching Ishaan, he gives all his attention toward the learning of the
child and he did not failed. Ishaan learned well, he learned how to write and read.

There was an organized painting competition wherein all students and teachers are
free to join. On the day of the competition Ishaan woke up early and left. The competition
was already starting but Ishaan is not yet at the place of the event. Mr. Nikumbh feel
uneasy and searching the presence of Ishaan. When Ishaan finally arrive Mr. Nikumbh’s
face was in so much glad and they start painting. At the end of the competition it was
Ishaan’s painting declared as the winner.  Their school year book was covered by Ishaan’s
painting and Mr. Nikumbh’s painting which is the face of Ishaan. His parents as well as his
teacher whom step on him before were very proud of him. All of this is to be thanking to Mr.
Nikumbh who spent his time and help Ishaan to developed and nurture the hidden talent of
the child.

                     CONCLUSION

The story tell us that a child is a child whoever they are they should be accepted.
Never reject them nor make them feel that they are worthless for it brings them too much
frustration that leads to depression. They should be care and given much attention. We all
have incapability but despite of it we still have hidden talent which will reveal sooner or later
by the help of those people around us. That is why we should apply this sayings in our life
don’t judge the book by its cover, look inside and discover. Another is “no one is an island”,
we cannot live alone; we need someone by our side who will guide us, nurture us and
someone who will help us to discover things which we cannot do alone and someone who
will accept us.
RECOMMENDATION
Our world is surrounded by people who have a very narrow mind, judgmental and
irrational. They are those people who love discriminating others especially when they saw
something indifferent. They don’t know the real meaning of acceptance. For them to realize
that their doing something bad we need first to prove ourselves.  It’s not bad, it’s better
because it will let them regret their own words. We need to have a wide understanding and
be careful with our words. We need to respect others if want to be respected in return.

Adults should not demand that their kids top all their subjects so that they can live out the
unfulfilled ambitions of their parents. Each child is special in the sense that they have their
own calling, which may or may not be in line with what their families want. Moreover, as an
OT, I highly regard this movie for advocating the “disability perspective”: that there are a lot
of special children who have given up trying to meet age-appropriate demands because of
disabilities. Every Child Is Special is a movie that can tug the heartstrings and at the same
time bring hope that having dyslexia is not really a desperate situation. Friends and family
support, patience, and love are central themes in this story.

The story is unusual but not unknown.

The message that the story tries to
convey is already known to us, but most
of us just remain ignorant to it. Aamir
Khan, the director, has handled the
delicate theme with dexterity and
precision. He has not just succeeded in
making every child a hero but actually
helped us see a child in ourselves. Just
like no man is perfect no matter what
position he commands in the society,
every child with both their ability and
inabilities is special and talented in their
own way. The movie isn’t just about a
child suffering from dyslexia and his
challenges, it’s also about how parents
get carried away by today’s competitive
world and fail to understand their child’s
dreams and nurture their inborn talents.
Unlike any other enlightening entertainer
which focuses more on the hero, Aamir
has given the child more footage and
captured every emotion deftly thereby
focusing on its root cause and
maintaining its significance throughout
the movie. A number of sequences leave
you moist eyed and you feel deeply
attached to the child. At the end of the
movie you are left speechless and
spellbound.

In all things that we do, we must do it with care. Reaction: The movie was indeed great. The lighting, the
sounds, and the actors are great. The plot of the story of the movie is also great. Everything is great about
the movie, especially the message of the movie to the watchers. I learned so many things by just watching
the movie. It teaches us to not judge others quickly and that we should never give up. It also tells us that
what matters at the end of the day is what you?ve done to improve yourself. It has so many values in it.
And many children and teens can relate to the movie as well. It was really uplifting to the soul to watch
those kinds of movies

A troubled kid, a true-to-his-profession teacher and an

extraordinary moment of insight, all of that with a lot more of
magic made ‘Taare Zameen Par’ exactly what it is. Not to
forget, Aamir Khan and his limitless acting and the Darsheel
Safary (who was was a kid then) who shot to fame.

Mankind are truly worse than monsters.

Children whether they have disabilities or not must be treated with love and encouragement. It all takes a big hug,
a kiss in the cheek or by saying the words, “I love you, my child” to show them that we care.
I have encountered kids who need special attention and I was able to play with them. Whenever the kids are
happy, I am happier.

The movie “Every Child Is Special” taught me not only to show concern for the children but to believe that being
different is not a bad thing.

1.Excellent direction by Amir

2.Excellent acting by the boy ( I would give credit to Aamir also for this for envisioning and crafting this
character )
3.Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy compliments the story so very well. This is how music and songs should
be.
4.Lyrics are so beautiful and have expressed the boy's feelings accurately.

Just like other Hindi-films I have watched, some parts were delivered through singing and
dancing. The most touching part of this movie is when Ishaan is crying and hurt for the idea
that her mother, the only person who understands him is actually letting him go. The scene
was emphasized with a sad song that says something like this:

There are various diamonds that have been born in this world, who have changed the map of
this whole world ... because they were able to see this world from a different angle

“The letters are dancing…” – Ishaan

The movie is about Ishaan (Darsheel Safary) a kid who is suffering from
dyslexia and misunderstood of being lazy and slow is treated badly by his teachers and
parents, especially his father. He is sent to a boarding school away from his family that
causes his depression. A substitute English teacher who is funny, lively and loves music
and arts met him and help him overcome his problem. But there is more than Ishaan’s
condition to solve the problem.
The movie is more of the current educational setting, the system and parents
who lay more stress on the academic performance of their child rather than their child’s
talent and interest. Every Child is Special taught the issue about the difference of
interest and the judgments of adults around the child. The movie taught about the
understanding of the child’s situation rather than insisting what we think is the best for
the child. The movie also shows the interaction of teachers to the students and to the
parents especially when they convince the parents of Ishaan to transfer in the boarding
school. The part here the child is separated with his family is a very heartwarming part
and the background song contributes to it.
Parents can relate to this movie and can find lesson not to pressure their child to
be the first among their classmates but to bring out the best interest of the child.
Teachers can get the point not to judge or put a child down because you think he/she is
slow but to help and encourage the students. This is a very good movie for teachers
who want to have a deeper understanding of child diversity and learn that an effective
strategy to a child may not be as effective to others. This movie ill remind the students
that medals, honors and awards are not the only thing that matters, grades cannot
indicate the future.

Every child can excel may be not in academics but on other things that interest
them and remember that every child has their own way because every child is special!
