Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss how art was used by prehistoric people to depict everyday life.
2. Explain how art is linked with religion in Early Egyptian civilization.
3. Identify the major periods in Western art history.

Direction: Answer the following.

1. What was the importance and significance of art during the prehistoric period.
 The importance and significance of art during prehistoric period is they focused on the three
distinct eras which are the Lower Paleolithic, the Middle Paleolithic and the Upper Paleolithic.
Prehistoric art forms were drawn for definite purposes were generally ritualistic and to glorify the
hunt. Other prehistoric drawings depicting seasonal animals were also attempts by prehistoric
man to document the season as they came and went. Prehistoric men truly resided in caves and
carried outmost of their activities in hiding. This is due to the fact that they hid from predators as
well as the ever changing elements of nature. Prehistoric artist actively believed that depicting an
object or item in art form was a way of putting a binding spell on the drawn item.

2. During the early Egyptian civilization, in what ways were art and religion interconnected?
 Egyptian religion was System of beliefs/rituals, with mystical gods. Religion centered on the
pharaoh (king) of Egypt. Pharaoh was believed to be descended from gods. Their art was related
to messages/drawings to help the deceased to live forever by giving them instructions when they
meet gods on their way to eternal life. Also preservation of knowledge of the past. Although much
is known, there is still much remains a mystery. Greeks and Romans have copied and hadhuge
influence from the Egyptian civilization (art/religion).
3. In the two boxes, draw two different images of something that you consider beautiful.

In what ways are your drawings similar? In what ways are they different?
 They are similar because they are both paintings and in terms of the content they are both an
inspirational quotes that will really inspire you, uplift you and release positivity at all times. The
difference between the two artworks is all about message or the meaning of each quote. The first
artwork tells us to be peaceful, calm and centered. No person, place, or thing has any power over
you, for you are the only thinker in your mind. Release all past experiences and choose to live in
the joyous and amazing now. All that you seek is already within you. The second artwork tells us
that a smile can make a difference in not just your life, but everyone around you. A simple smile
when passing someone on street, a written note to someone having a rough day, a really long hug
with your best friend, or a good luck text to someone are just a few easy way to spread joy to
those around you. Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving
happier.

4. Pretend that you are a commisioned artist and you are asked to create an artwork (any form or
medium) that depicts love. Using the different periods and art movements in Western Europe, describe
(or draw) how will you execute and create the artwork based on the period you chose.
