Dear Community Residents:

I am writing to you today to provide an update on the advancement of The New York
Botanical Garden’s parking garage.

The New York Botanical Garden is in the midst of constructing a new parking facility
adjacent to the Metro-North Botanical Garden station on the west side of the tracks. This
new intermodal transportation facility, to be known as The Peter Jay Sharp Building, is
an open-air pre-cast concrete structure with one basement and seven floors of parking
that will accommodate parking for more than 800 cars. The facility is intended to benefit
community residents as well as Garden visitors and commuters. A flyer is attached for
anyone interested in parking in this new facility upon its completion Spring 2011.

As we informed the community on August 23rd, construction of the parking garage has
begun. Over the past four months, significant progress has been made on site excavation,
sheeting/shoring and subsurface utility phase of the construction. As we make
preparations to undertake the next phase of construction activities, we are committed to
providing the community, including nearby property owners, the community board,
NYPD, FDNY, Metro-North Railroad (MNR), and EMS, with more detailed information
as it becomes available. To that end, this notice is to provide additional information
regarding upcoming temporary changes regarding nearby streets and sidewalks.

It is of the utmost concern to NYBG that we maintain a safe and secure environment for
our neighbors during the course of this project. A construction superintendent and at
least one foreman will be present during working hours and security personnel will be on
the construction site during all non-working hours. Security will continue in this fashion
throughout the project. We have also coordinated with the NYPD, FDNY, and EMS to
ensure that proper access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times for the
areas surrounding the construction site.
