CPRI Solution

This technical poster provides only a general overview and does not constitute any offers or commitments. For detailed
information, see the product or feature documentation delivered with the software.

01 Definition
Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) refers to the interface between a baseband board and
an RF module in a base station.

Each BBU has one CPRI link connecting to an RRU at a time. Each one of the two CPRI ports has a CPRI link
When this CPRI link becomes faulty, services are switched over and transmits identical user-plane data, leading to
to another link, providing higher reliability than a chain topology. higher reliability than a star topology.

2 LTE CPRI Sharing

When multiple LTE baseband processing/interface boards are installed in one BBU, CPRI sharing
enables CPRI ports on one baseband board to be shared by other baseband boards, which
increases the flexibility of fiber connections and reduces the required number of fiber optic cables.

3 LTE CPRI Compression

CPRI Compression reduces the required amount of CPRI bandwidth resources and enables each
CPRI port to support more carriers or RF modules through compressed user-plane data bit width
and a reduced sampling rate.

04 Multimode CPRI Solution

1 CPRI MUX
CPRI Multiplex (CPRI MUX) enables multiple modes to use a CPRI port to transmit data.
Multimode RF modules are connected to a baseband processing/interface board of mode A through
CPRI links. Another baseband processing/interface board of mode B is connected to the previous
board through the BBU backplane and indirectly communicates with the multimode RF modules.
CPRI MUX reduces CPRI cable connections, and applies to all multimode base stations.

2 Dual Star Topology in Separate-MPT Scenarios

In a separate-MPT base station, the dual star topology is generally used, with each multi-mode RF
module providing separate CPRI cables to connect to baseband boards of different modes.

3 Star Topology with CPRI MUX in Separate-MPT Scenarios

In a separate-MPT base station, CPRI MUX can be enabled. A UL separate-MPT base station is used
as an example.

In the RRUCHAIN MO, set Access Type to PEERPORT on the

LBBP WMPT converged party. Specify the cabinet, subrack, slot, and optical
U+L WBBP LMPT port numbers of the CPRI port on the converging party, respectively.

4 Dual Star Topology with CPRI MUX in Separate-MPT Scenarios

In a separate-MPT triple-mode base station, the dual star topology with CPRI MUX is generally used.
Two modes (separate-MPT or co-MPT) use CPRI MUX, and form a separate-MPT dual star topology
with the third mode. For example, the GSM and UMTS (separate-MPT) use CPRI MUX, and form a
GU+L dual star topology with LTE.

6 Chain Topology with CPRI MUX in Co-MPT Scenarios

A Co-MPT base station supports various network topologies using CPRI MUX, and requires no software
configuration to support CPRI MUX. When baseband boards of each mode separately provide CPRI ports
to connect to RF modules of each corresponding mode, the CPRI MUX solution is the same as that for
single-mode base stations.
