“They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
we will remember them.”

by Laurence Binyon,
For The Fallen.

Sexual abuse – it is okay to speak up

April is Sexual Assault Awareness
Month.
Victoria Police Sexual Offences
and Child Abuse Investigation
Teams (SOCITs) are hosting the
annual campaign which aims to
raise awareness around sexual
assault and helping people speak
up, to help turn the tide on under
reporting.
Although commonly believed
that rape or sexual assaults are
committed by a stranger, a post
on the Moorabool Eyewatch
Facebook page said, “the large
majority of victims are abused
by someone they know – often in
familiar location like the victim’s
own home.”
Victoria Police Sexual Offences
and Child Abuse Investigation
Teams (SOCITs) are staffed by
experienced and qualified police
who are specially trained to
respond and investigate these
crimes.
Victoria Police are encouraging
people to report any incidences to
their local SOCIT – Ballarat 5336
6055.
For additional support services,
contact the Victorian Centres
Against Sexual Assault (CASA)
via www.casa.org.au.
If you need immediate police
attendance, always call Triple
Zero-000.
It is never too late to report sexual
offending.
