The purpose of calculating knee point is to select CT with operating point below knee point as above knee point CT tends to saturate and cause mal operation of protection relay. Knee point calculation is done for CTs used for differential protection and REF.

RE: What is the purpose of calculating knee point volt...
The main purpose of calculating the knee point voltage is to identify the core saturation characteristics .This is mainly done on protection CT's
RE: What is the purpose of calculating knee point volt...
After knee point saturation of the CT occurs. Hence the CT has to work below the knee point. By selecting a CT suitably for operating point below the knee point proper operation of the protection (like differential REF where protection class CTs are used) can be ensured.

RE: What is the purpose of calculating knee point voltage
for Current transformers? Purpose of collecting Knee voltage is to use the circuit as an operating or as an metering circuit. Operating circuit works far below knee voltage. Metering circuit works at the verge of saturation.
Re: how to calculate knee point
voltage of current transformer? Answ 10 % increase in voltage gives er you 50 % increase in # 1 excitation current is called knee point voltage. To measure this first demagnetize the CT and apply voltage gradually from secondary keeping primary winding open circuited. while doing this above phenomena will be observed.
Re: how to calculate knee point
voltage of current transformer? Answ to calculate knee point voltage er of current transformer by # 2 formal Vknee point = I secandary(Rct+ Rcable+ Rburden) where Rct= resistance of current transformer Rcable =resistance of cable =2Rcable Rburden =burden of relay IF Vknee point< manufacture voltage of current transformer current transformer is good
IF Vknee point> manufacture
voltage of current transformer current transformer must be change
Re: how to calculate knee point voltage
of current transformer? Answ The knee-point voltage will er depend on the size and class of # 5 the CT, and it can be very high on some CTs (several hundreds of volts) Be very cautious, you will be working on live equipment during the test.
Now you can just plot the
current and voltage values on a graph. This is the mag-curve of the CT. IEC classify the knee point voltage as the point where a 10% increase in voltage results in a 50% increase in current. Accuracy Rate
5P10, 10B50 and 0.5M5
P is designation for protection. 5P10 means that the CT will have max of 5% inaccuracy when the current of 10 times reated current of CT is experienced. M is designation for metering. 0.5M means that the CT max inaccuracy is 0.5% The ...B50 part is a meausre of the maximum burden the CT can carry and still maintain accuracy.
