(a) If the point P(x, y) is equidistant from the points A(a + b, b – a) and B(a - b, a + b), prove that bx = ay. [3]
(b) In the adjoining figure, D is mid-point of AB and P is any point on side BC of ∆ABC. If CQ || PD meets

AB in Q, then prove that area of ∆BPQ = area of ∆ABC. [3]

(c) In what period of time will ` 12,000 yield ` 3972 as compound interest at 10% per annum, if compounded
on yearly basis. [4]

(a) D is any point on the side of AC of a ∆ABC with AB = AC. Show that CD < BD. [3]
(b) Six years hence a man’s age will be three times his son’s age, and three years ago he was nine times as
old as his son. Find their present ages. [4]
(c) The following are the weights (in kg) of 8 students of a class : 50, 44.5, 48.7, 45.1, 50.4, 43, 51, 49.3.
(i) Find the mean weight.
(ii) If a teacher, whose weight is 62 kg, is also included then what will be the mean weight? [3]
Question 9
(a) A cuboid has length, breadth and diagonal as 4 m, 3 m and 13 m respectively. Find its volume. [3]
(b) AB and AC are two chords of a circle of radius r such that AB = 2 AC. If p and q are the distances of AB
and AC from the centre, prove that 4q2 = p2 + 3r2 [3]
(c) Solve the following system of equations graphically
4x – y = 5 and 5y – 4x = 7 [4]
Question 10
(a) The angles of a quadrilateral are in the ratio 3 : 7 : 6 : 4. Prove that the quadrilateral is a trapezium. [3]
(b) If log2 x = a and log3 y = a, find 122a – 1 in terms of x and y. [3]
(c) From the adjoining figure, find (i) sin x (ii) cos y [4]

(a) In the adjoining figure, MN is parallel to PR, ∠LBN = 70° and AB = BC. Find the value of ∠ABC. [3]

(b) In the adjoining figure, P is mid-point of the side BC of a parallelogram ABCD such that ∠BAP = ∠DAP.
Prove that AD = 2CD. [3]
(c) The cross-section of a piece of metal 2 m in length is shown in figure (i) given below. Calculate
(i) the area of cross-section.
(ii) The volume of the piece of metal in cubic centimetres (cm3).
If 1 cm3 of the metal weighs 6.6 g, calculate the weight of the piece of metal to the nearest kg. [4]
