Propagation in pomegranate

When pomegranates are propagated using seedlings, they will germinate and result in a

vigorous tree. However, the resulting tree will not be a true copy of the parent, and the fruit
produced will be unpredictable in size, color, sweetness and juiciness (LaRue 1980).

It is very easy to graft pomegranate like other graftings in fruit trees.

bud grafting in pomegranate is also a sort of grafting used for embedding new variety to
plant. ... The pomegranate grafting will start sprouting and growing in 4 to 5 weeks. Open
the grafting tape of pomegranate grafting after growing well.

Other propagation in pomegranate

Vegetative propagation by cuttings (softwood and hardwood) and micropropagation can be

used to grow new pomegranate trees which produce fruit identical to the parental
tree. Pomegranates can be propagated using both softwood or hardwood cuttings, but
hardwood cuttings are most commonly used commercially.

Planting techniques of Pomegranate:

 Square system of planting is mostly adopted. Planting distance is decided on the

basis of soil type and climate. A spacing of 4 meters-5 meters.
 Pits of 60 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm. size are dug (at a spacing of 5 cm.
Pomegranate is propagated vegetatively by cuttings, air layering or gootee. Air layering is
usually done during the rainy season and also in November-December. Planting is usually
done in spring (February-March) and July-August in sub-tropical and tropical regions
respectively.

Propagation in anola

Aonla being a cross pollinated crop which leads to heterozygocity in plants and hence it
requires propagation by vegetative methods to produce true to type and genetically uniform
planting material. Traditionally, aonla is propagated by budding methods.

Other methods propagation in anola

Traitionally, aonla is propagated by budding methods. i.e. patch, modified ring budding,
forket and 'T' budding on one year old seedling rootstock in July-August. Among
these methods patch budding gives highest success.

The major methods of asexual propagation are

cuttings, layering, division, budding and grafting. Cuttings involve rooting a severed piece
of the parent plant; layering involves rooting a part of the parent and then severing it;
and budding and grafting is joining two plant parts from different varieties.

Planting methods in anola

Aonla is propagated by budding or softwood grafting. Planting of aonla is mainly done in

July-August. Grafted or budded plants are planted 4-5 meter apart under square system of
layout during July-August or February.

Propagation in custard apple

Propagation can be done using seeds as well as vegetative methods. Seeds are extracted
from quality fruits and are used for sowing. The seeds of custard apple can usually last for 2
to 3 years with the best viability. Seed treatment is carried out by soaking the seeds in cold
water for 50 to 60 hours.
