The Corridor will pass from six cities of which 3 would be Jhansi, Chitrakoot

and Kanpur i.e. the Bundelkhand region will constitute the Backbone of this
whole project.

Future possibilities

 The setting up of Defense Corridor will facilitate the development of


internationally competitive enterprises to manufacture and maintain
all major defense ecosystem and platforms within the country.
 It will create jobs in major technical and non-technical sectors.
 Technical sectors: Project managers, senior engineers, specialized
engineers, various other jobs for people holding qualifications like,
diploma, ITI etc. directly and indirectly into defence and allied
industries viz. hospitality industry, FMCG, MNC’s, Merchandise so on
and so forth.
 Non-Technical: Office Management, Educational, Hospitals, Accounts
& audits, Construction business etc. will flourish.
 Besides, it will bring the mass migration from the region to a
standstill, as the jobs will be created in various informal sectors as
well. It may range to opening of dairies to coaching centers and from
typing to vocational training institutes.

Investors Summit in February 2018 an investment worth INR 20,000
crore is proposed in Bundelkhand region
 It is also estimated to create over 2.5 lakh employment opportunities
including both formal and informal sector.
 The development of these corridors will not only help in accelerated
growth and regional industry agglomeration, but will also facilitate a
well-planned and efficient industrial base which will lead to increased
defense production in the region for the country.
 This will also help the industry to integrate with the global supply
chain of Defense manufacturing.

Increase in connectivity

 The state govt. released the first tranche of Rs 435 crore in January
for fast-tracking the construction of the 296-km long Bundelkhand
Expressway, which will serve as the lifeline of the proposed ‘defence
corridor’ in the state. It is planned to complete in two years.
 The expressway will serve as the main access to the defence corridor,
which will come up on both its sides. Nearly 96 per cent of the land
required for the expressway has already been acquired from nearly
21,000 farmers at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore.
 According to Uttar Pradesh government, the defence industrial
corridor is suitably located with good road and air connectivity and
has large manufacturing bases including three units of HAL in
Kanpur, Korwa and Lucknow besides NainiAerospace Ltd of HAL,
ordinance factories (OFB) in Kanpur, Korwa, Tundla, Ghaziabad and
Shahjahanpur, and BEL in Ghaziabad.
 Proposed Ganga Expressway, which would connect Meerut and
Prayagraj (Allahabad).
 Defence corridor will be in proximity to upcoming Jewar international
airport, touted as to be largest in Asia.
 A proposal to establish the defence park as a joint venture of UPEIDA
and IIT, Kanpur on 30-acre land proposed in Shivli near IIT Kanpur
has been forwarded to Department of Industrial Development by
UPEIDA.
