Experience
Hostess March 2016 to June 2016
Pizza Plus - Lebanon, VA
As my first job at sixteen, working with the public taught me time management, oral
communication, money handling, leadership, customer service, teamwork, and most
importantly patience. This job allowed me to interact with people from all walks of life and
allowed me to experience the stresses that many of my own students have juggled with their
school lives.

Photography Assistant August 2016 to July 2018

Mary K's Photography, LLC - Lebanon, VA
Within this job, my responsibilities included a variety of things, and taught me important skills
such as time management, public relations, handling money, placing orders, and organization.
I really enjoyed being able to interact with people and learn about their experiences.

Peer Tutor May 2017 to July 2018

Southwest Virginia Community College – Richlands, VA
While tutoring students, I experienced the moment that all my teachers had talked about. The
spark in student’s eyes when they finally get what you have been teaching; that moment of
realization and relief. Being able to guide students over that momentous hump that seems
impossible is one of the most gratifying experiences as an educator.

Blocking Student/ Student Teacher August 2019 to May 2020

Radford University Teacher Education Program – Radford, VA
Nothing has prepared me more to become a Secondary English teacher than being able to
experience what it is like to be in the classroom every day. Being able to learn from an
experienced teacher, as well as from the experiences of the students themselves, has given
me irreplaceable skills within the classroom. Not only this, but also learning specific classroom
management strategies and how to better accommodate students and their needs has proven
to be beyond helpful within the classroom itself. I have loved being able to help students
recognize the magic of English and cannot wait to implement the skills I have learned to my
own future classroom.

Special Interests

Theatre
While in high school, I took advantage of all theatrical opportunities offered. I was cast as Mrs.
Peterson in the production of Bye Bye Birdie, and in my senior year, I was cast as Mother
Abbess in the production of The Sound of Music. During this time, I also participated in the
production of Oliver, along with playing the role of Ash in an independent film entitled Fade
Out. Each of these opportunities allowed me to grow alongside my peers over the course of
several months, and they also allowed me to speak in front of large groups of people while
reciting memorized lines. Throughout my education at Radford University, I realized that this
skill is incredibly helpful within the classroom setting. I finally realize why I have always heard
that teachers are the best actors!

Chorus
I was a member of chorus from third grade until I graduated high school. I was not only a
member of the school choir, but I also participated yearly in All-Regional Choir and All-State
Choir which each require an audition that includes singing a song without music and sight-
reading a piece of music which you have never seen before. Being a chorus member allowed
me to connect with students from all over the region and state, allowing you to make new
friends and work together to complete a final concert.

Buddy Club
One of the most rewarding opportunities I was given in high school was to participate in a
program called The Buddy Club. High school students are paired with students who have
different abilities and we are their special friend that helps them in varying situations.
Although I am not pursuing a career in Special Education, I have a cousin who is special needs
and I have an enormous amount of respect for individuals, teachers, and families who strive to
help each person overcome their individual barriers so they can achieve their greatest
potential.
