THE PAINT INDUSTRY

• The paint industry is expected to grow at


12%-13% annually over the next 5 years
from Rs. 280 billion in FY13 to around Rs.
500 billion by FY18

• Demand from paints come from two broad


categories :-
Decoratives:- Major segments in decoratives
include exterior wall paints, interior wall
paints, wood finishes and enamel and ancillary
products such as primers, putties etc.
Industrial:- Three main segments of the
industrial sector include automotive coatings,
powder coatings and protective coatings

 Berger Paints has come a long way since its inception in 1923
 2nd largest paint company in India with a turnover of Rs 3335
cr
 Headquarters in Kolkata
 Has 95 depots
 7 manufacturing units
 Spreaded over many countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Poland,
etc.
 It ranks 10th in Asia and 25th in worldwide with a turnover of
3600 crores
 In India it has got 11 manufacturing units & in West Bengal it
has 5 manufacturing units out of 11 units

The COLOR BANK tinting system was launched


through which the consumer can select from a
range of over 5000 colours

The Xpress painting machine tools were


launched in the year 2014

• Filling up the Know Your Painter form. That form containing the details ( how
much the painter is lifting paints in one year , is he only lifts paints of Berger or
other, No. of Painters working under him, No. Of projects handled, Total value
of purchase last year [in lacs], total consumption of Paint LY [Volume in KL],
Total Consumption of Emulsion Paint [Volume in KL])

• To collect appropriate contractors & Painters Identification who are enlisted


with Berger paints (Address proof, passport size photograph)

• Calling done to the inactive/dead master painter to make them active

• Survey done in the market to know how many painters bought the express
painting tools

• Helped the painters to lift their points via phone to make them active

 We are assigned to a particular territory and we were handed


over the KYP forms and survey forms in which we have to call
the master painter and fix time with them to fill those survey
and KYP form

 We have to call the inactive and dead painters to make them


active for the company

 We also help the painters to lift their points

 Again Berger painters has opened a training institute named as


TAP in which we have to call the master painter and asked
whether they were interested to take our trained painters
FINDINGS

 On the basis of the survey I observed that most of painters or


contractors are satisfied with the paint quality but they
demanded to increase the quantity

 Maximum number of painters used to lift the interior paints


rather than exterior

 Due to high price of the machines painters are not willing to


purchase

 Most of the painter difficult to lift the points


RECOMMENDATIONS

 Proper training should be given to the painters time to time

 Gifts and rewards to be given in time

 The service of Berger paints call centre should be improved

 As painters are not well educated so various schemes of the


company should be informed them with the help of personal
meeting

 Complains should be solved as quick as possible

 Berger paints should sell Express Painting tools in


installment basis so that every one can afford it
CONCLUSION

 Overall we had a great and challenging one


month working at Berger Paints. We now have a
little bit of the experience how the corporate
world works, that we will be serving within a year.
