HISTORY

Bajaj Automobiles, been Founded by Jamnalal Bajaj is an important and efficient company which
produces two and three wheelers. The Company’s history traces its successful productions over the years.
This reputed vehicle manufacturing company which is actually a brand in itself is known for producing
some of the finest, efficient and low cost vehicles till date. There are two holding companies Bajaj Auto
International Holdings BV and PT Bajaj Indonesia.

29th November 1945 marks a crucial date in the glory of Bajaj Auto as it came upon the name of Bachraj
Trading Corporation Private Limited. Sooner Bajaj Automobiles marked a glory as it began selling
imported vehicles in India.

In 1959 Bajaj Automobiles got permission from the Government to selling vehicles in India. 1960
witnessed Bajaj being made into a Public Limited Company. A year to be well remembered is 1970 as it
reflected a steady increase in automobile production of Bajaj. Right after a year new models of vehicles
got produced and in 1977 a lot of vehicles got produced with varied models.1984 resembles a year when
Bajaj laid a new plant at Waluj, Aurangabad. There were plants laid at Pune too in the subsequent years.

November 2001 marked another turning point as a well-known Bike “Pulsar” was been launched. Caliber
was also launched in later years. Various policies even came into source. Three separate segments to look
upon certain areas were also been known well. 15000 million were also been given to Bajaj Investment
and Holding Ltd. Later on in Uttarakhand also various plants were been setup. The plant at Akurdi was
closed due to large manufacturing prices.

In November 2007the Company attained 14.51 percent equity stake in one of the well-known brand at
that time (KTM power Sports AG of Austria Europe). In 2009 the company launched XCD 125 DTS – S.
Later the company increased its production. The company was also been honoured with various awards
like Bike of the year to name a few. Bajaj also had good business relations various leading companies
overseas. In 2015 all-new Platina Electric start 100 cc bike was also been introduced. Bajaj in 2017
achieved worldwide partnership with UK and had healthy relations with Triumph Motorcycles, UK.

Bajaj ranks 96th position among the top hundred automobiles companies. Bajaj through its inception has
being known to produce high quality motor vehicles.

It would be quite surprising to know that Bajaj Automobiles works efficiently in 50 countries and is
working properly till date.

6
Present Scenario/ Growth Patterns

Bajaj Automobiles is growing rapidly regarding the manufacturing of the motorcycles. Bajaj is constantly
using its profits efficiently but recently it’s been heard that the company centred in Pune is unconcerned
and is constantly rising the rate of the vehicles. The need for the consumer goods is at height usually in
the month of August and according to a reputed newspaper it is believed that the prices may reach heights
by that time. In 2018, more demand was been observed in the rural settings. Bajaj is believed to grow
rapidly with its shares. The profit rates of Bajaj has expanded rapidly over the years. It must be noted
carefully that the change is not at all same for all the other leading companies as well like Honda, Hero,
TVS to name a few. On June 20th 2018, the investors were not happy with the Bajaj Company with little
earnings and being unexpected to earn so less as a result reflecting less earnings.

Bajaj even sells the Pulsars thrice more in Colombia as compared to India. Bajaj in 2018 was expecting
20 percent market shares. 2017 witnessed to be a turning point in the selling of Bajaj automobiles and in
particular it affected the two wheelers at a higher rate due to effects of demonetisation. However in 2018,
a sudden rise in the sale of the vehicles took place.

Two bikes Discover 110 and 125 cc contributed significantly in the profits of Bajaj automobiles. Earlier
Bajaj laid stress on the production of scooters but now the trend has shifted to motorcycles. Some variety
of motorcycles are showing a very high profit Margin than the other. A lot of satisfaction over the
company’s export performance is observed.

Bajaj follows a very smart strategy to increase its production namely 4Ps. 4Ps are as follows-
1. Product
 Bajaj is known for manufacturing two wheelers and three wheelers in India and
overseas. Nearly 35% sales are regarding the exports. 47% of the total percentage is
made to Africa. The largest selling model is Boxer which is in demand in Africa.

7
Selling vehicles according to their demand in a particular area is the Product policy of
Bajaj automobiles.

2. Price
 Pricing policy is very useful of Bajaj Automobiles. The concept relates to the low
pricing policy of Bajaj Automobiles. Bajaj believes in low service cost of the
wheelers. The rates of certain essential parts of the automobiles is also very
reasonable.

3. Place
 There are several plants located at Chakan, Mumbai, Pantnagar and Pune to name a
few. Millions of vehicles are manufactured at various places.

4. Promotion
 Promotion techniques of Bajaj Automobiles range from print media, Television and
various other platforms. Loyalty and reflecting faithful Indians is another technique of
Bajaj Automobiles.
 Bajaj automobiles follows a very unique policy which traces the factors like the age
of a person, how much the person earns, how responsive the consumer is to the price
and the demand and supply conditions. Other factors may include the lifestyle of a
person. Value based positioning strategy is also been used by the Bajaj automobiles.
The company uses advances skills for the technological upliftment. Rewarding the
regular customers with low set of prices.Bajaj do not make their customers worry
about the continous rise in prices.

Through the advertisements Bajaj automobiles try to promote their products to the best possible way and
try to show the products as being superior to all the other products of the other brands.
Hence, the 4P’s try to make the proper selling of the products.

13
Mergers and Acquisitions

Bajaj retitled itself as “Bajaj Tempo”. Bajaj had strong tie-ups with Germany and it may be interesting to
know that Germany possessed sixteen percent of Bajaj Tempos. There were a lot of controversies
regarding the same, the use of “Tempo” was not been agreed upon completely as it still was under
Mercedes-Benz.
May 2005 revealed a turning point as the name of the Company was renamed FORCE MOTORS.
Three business units in which demerger of Bajaj took place are-
1. Bajaj Finserv Ltd

Contribution to GDP

14
The GDP has not been very promising as it was been expected. Lack of important investments over the
years has made it difficult to put forward the new assets. Rahul Bajaj believes that the low GDP of India
can have an adverse impact upon the company. India had GDP growth of 7.7% for the year 2017-2018
but it is disturbing situation.
GDP can detoraite the performance of Bajaj automobiles. There are main two arguments been put
forward regarding the same.
 The funds have been not enough
 The condition of banks in India

Bajaj automobiles GDP has been declining at a very high rate from six years and now it is as low as
thirty-one percent.
The banks are even facing a lot of problems and all this is making the conditions difficult for the
company.
Though Bajaj has shown the highest net sales that are as high as 15.6% in the year 2017-2018.
According to the director of Bajaj the condition of banks is a cause of concern for constant low growth
rates.
2015 shows a worrying macroeconomic theme as in the Annual report of 2015, Lower GDP’S were
having a disastrous impact on the jobs or in simpler words ‘Rising Unemployment’.
In the year 2016, Bajaj exported 400 units of Qute in thirteen markets overs the world but many
disruptions have been there like the continuous Judiciary related issues which interfere with the
conditions.
In the year 2017-2018, the Gross Domestic Product declined to 29.2 percent. In 2018 the Gross Domestic
Product came out to be 31 percent. The norms of the Reserve bank of India, Demonetisation had been
added to the bad conditions. Talking about the sale of motorcycles in this year, it also happens to be a
major cause of concern. Although the domestic sales grew by 3.7 percent after the de-growth of 0.4
percent in the former year. The devaluation of Rupee also remains an issue to be attended.
