Gas Trap
Gas trap is provided to detect any leakages of hydrogen into stator water circuit.
GENERATOR GAS SYSTEM
Hydrogen is used as a cooling medium in large capacity generators in view of its high
heat carrying capacity & low density. Hydrogen becomes highly explosive with
certain proportions of oxygen.
The Gas System mainly comprises of a gas control stand, a drier, an induction liquid
indicator, hydrogen control panel, gas purity measuring and indicating instrument,
valves, etc.

In order to prevent escape of Hydrogen from the generator casing, radial flow, double
chamber type of thrust oil seals are used on either sides of the machine where the
rotor comes out of the stator.

MAIN EXCITER
210MW Turbo-generators are provided with main & pilot exciters of high frequency
directly coupled to the main generator rotor. The high frequency AC output from the
main exciter is rectified in a static silicon rectifier unit & fed to the TG rotor. The
excitation required for the main exciter is provided by a pilot exciter also mounted on
the same shaft.
