Description - Once students are split into groups, have them collect and set up their
equipment.
- In each group, further split into 2 groups of 3 and have them line up on different
cones (refer to
diagram).
- The players of one group take turns of slowly jogging to the opposite diagonal
side of the area and
then move quickly to join the other group.
- As each player begins their jog, the leading player from the other group moves
out and performs a
aside step and runs through to join the other team.
- Continue through until everyone has had multiple goes.
- Make sure all players have a ball and is performing the drill with one.
Variations Progression
- Increase speed of drill.
- Increase distance
- Add defender
- Add a pass
Regression
- Walk through drill at a slow pace until everyone understands.

“Step, shift, swing”
- hold the middle of the ball with thumbs on top and fingers underneath
- swing the ball across the body with both hands and elbows slightly bent
- the head leads the rotation of the upper body towards the receiver
- release the ball and follow through in the direction of the pass
Effecting a touch
- Be positioned to one side of the ball carrier to reduce evasion options
- Look at the waist or lower trunk of the ball carrier
- Move towards the ball carrier and slow down slightly
- Touch the ball carrier with a ‘light tap’ and call out either ‘yes’ or ‘touch’

TAP TAG
Description Instructions
- Allocate each half of the class to their designated playing area
- When the teacher blows their whistle, the activity begins.
- Players run around trying to tag others with their ball (held in both hands), while
also trying to avoid being tagged themselves.
- Players who are tagged must exit the area and perform a tap (of the ball on their
foot) and then regather and re-join the game.

- One or two students are taggers and run without a ball.
Regression:
Make playing area larger to allow for more space
LEST L: split class into half and set up on two separate playing areas.
E: Rugby balls and cones.
S: 2 separate areas, enough space between each for students from either group
to distract each other.
