Function Description
D.G. monitoring  Monitors the rotational speed, voltage, and current of
the D.G. as well as the D.G. storage battery voltage.
 Starts or shuts down the D.G.
 Generates D.G. fault alarms.
AMF function  Detects the mains supply and enables the mains to supply
power if the mains is normal.
 Controls the AC transfer switch (ATS) to switch between the
mains and the D.G.
Communication  Supports local upgrade over an RS232 port.
 Supports Modbus.
 Communicates with the host over an RS485 port.
LCD display Provides an LCD to display the real-time data, alarm
information, and D.G. operating status.

Parameter configuration  Allows you to configure parameters on the host.

 Allows you to set parameters on the LCD.

Application Scenarios Operating Mode

The GMU is running properly. Automatic mode
You need to start or shut down the D.G. or switch off or Manual mode
on the generator circuit breaker (GCB) during local
maintenance.
You are maintaining the D.G. with connecting the power Closed mode
supply.
The GMU controls the D.G. startup or starts the D.G. Test mode
remotely on time with a mains supply.

GMU
User Manual 1 Overview

NOTE
Normally the GMU works in automatic mode. Under the conditions such as D.G. maintenance or startup,
switch from the automatic mode to manual mode or closed mode. After D.G. maintenance or startup is
complete, switch back to the automatic mode.

1.4.2 Automatic Mode

To enable the GMU to enter the automatic mode, press AUTO on the panel.

Connecting the Mains Supply

 If the GMU detects a mains supply, it switches on the miniature circuit breaker (MCB) to
connect the mains supply.
 If the GMU does not detect a mains supply, it switches off the MCB and switches on the
GCB. After the mains is restored, the GMU switches off the GCB. The D.G. shuts down
after cooling. When the time defined by Transfer Del arrives, the GMU switches on the
MCB to connect the mains supply.

Connecting the D.G. Supply

In automatic mode, the D.G. is started or shut down over a dry contact or command.
 Starting or shutting down the D.G. over a dry contact
If DI4 is set to Opened or Closed, the GMU remotely starts or shuts down the D.G. over
the DI4 dry contact if the mains is abnormal.
NOTE
The DI4 dry contact starts or shuts down the D.G. remotely.
 Starting or shutting down the D.G. over a command
If the mains is abnormal, the GMU starts or shuts down the D.G. by executing the
command sent by the host. If the D.G. fails to receive the command, the GMU still starts
the D.G. when the time defined by E-Start Del arrives.
NOTE
In automatic mode, the D.G. is started or shut down over a dry contact by default. If you need to start or
shut down the D.G. over a command, set DI4 to Invalid.

1.4.3 Manual Mode

To enable the GMU to enter the manual mode, press MAN on the panel.
 Press START to start the D.G. manually.
− If the D.G. is running properly, press I/O to switch on the GCB. If the GCB is
switched on, press I/O to switch off the GCB.
− If the mains supply is normal, press I/O to switch on the MCB. If the MCB is
switched on, press I/O to switch off the MCB.
 If the D.G. is running properly, press STOP. The D.G. shuts down after unloading and
cooling. When the D.G. is cooling, press STOP to shut down the D.G. immediately.

1.4.4 Closed Mode

To enable the GMU to enter the closed mode, press OFF on the panel.
