1 Overview
1.1 Appearance
A GMU consists of a liquid crystal display (LCD), an operation panel, a main circuit board,
and mechanical parts. Figure 1-1 shows a GMU front panel.
1.2 Functions
The GMU starts or shuts down a diesel generator (D.G.) and switches on or off the circuit
breakers on the D.G.
Table 1-1 Describes GMU functions.
Function Description
D.G. monitoring Monitors the rotational speed, voltage, and current of
the D.G. as well as the D.G. storage battery voltage.
Starts or shuts down the D.G.
Generates D.G. fault alarms.
AMF function Detects the mains supply and enables the mains to supply
power if the mains is normal.
Controls the AC transfer switch (ATS) to switch between the
mains and the D.G.
Communication Supports local upgrade over an RS232 port.
Supports Modbus.
Communicates with the host over an RS485 port.
LCD display Provides an LCD to display the real-time data, alarm
information, and D.G. operating status.
Table 1-2 Mapping between application scenarios and the GMU operating status
NOTE
Normally the GMU works in automatic mode. Under the conditions such as D.G. maintenance or startup,
switch from the automatic mode to manual mode or closed mode. After D.G. maintenance or startup is
complete, switch back to the automatic mode.
If the GMU detects a mains supply, it switches on the MCB to connect the mains
supply when the time defined by M-Return Del arrives.
If the GMU does not detect a mains supply, it switches off the MCB.
NOTE
Do not start or shut down the D.G. or switch on the GCB in closed mode.

2 Installation
Personnel Requirements
Only trained and qualified personnel are allowed to install, operate, and maintain Huawei
equipment, and they must understand basic safety precautions to avoid hazards.
Human Safety
To prevent electric shocks, get the tool insulated and wear insulated gloves when connecting
cables.
2.1.2 Tools
Table 2-1 describes the tools.
2.2 Installation
Align the six tapped holes in the GMU with the six tapped holes in the cabinet, and install and
tighten six screws to secure the GMU to the cabinet.
