PAINT PROCEDURE

1 General

1.1 Scope

This procedure covers the painting requirements for external surface of the heat exchangers
for BRUNEI FERTILIZER COMPLEX PROJECT

2 Code & Standards

The applicable standard shall be in accordance with the purchaser's Spec.

- PROJECT ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION PAINTING(PES-Y1)

3 Execution of Works

3.1 Shop painting

3.1.1 The equipment shall be painted in accordance with attached painting schedule at

the manufacturer's shop.

3.1.2 Prior to fabrication or installation shot blast clean and then primer coat shall be applied to the parts
which are not accessible after fabrication or installation such as girth flange and tubesheet part.

3.1.3 Prior to surface preparation, all gasket contact surfaces and other machined surfaces shall be protected

by hard cover sheet, from shot blast and handling damage and kept free of paint except rust preventive

And, expansion bellows, grounding lugs and bolting surface shall be also protected by proper method.

3.1.4 Prior to assembly for hydrostatic test, the bolt hole of all flange and around the gasket surface,
except gasket contact surface, shall be painted with primer paint only.

* Please find attached painting schedule for bolt hole parts.

3.1.5 The paint, beyond a shelf life of 12 months, shall be prohibited. For zinc silicate,
max shelf life is limited as 6 months

3.2 Surface preparation

3.2.1 The preferred method of pre-cleaning is with steam (however, should be avoided in the open field).

If steam cleaning is not possible, solvent cleaning shall be executed using a suitable solvent

in accordance with SSPC-SP1.

3.2.2 Mill scale, rust-scale and foreign matter shall be removed by shot blast cleaning

3.2.3 The grade of preparation shall be classified and defined as follows ;

SSPC-SP5 (Sa 3) ------> White metal blast cleaning

SSPC-SP6 (Sa 2) ------> Commercial blast cleaning

* SSPC-SP-7 (Sa 1) ------> Sweep blast cleaning

* SSPC-SP10 (Sa 2-1/2) ------> Near-white blast cleaning

3.2.3 Blast cleaning shall not be executed when Para 3.4.1 is met
PAINT PROCEDURE

3.3 General requirement

3.3.1 Painting shall be applied by spraying method except special case such as repair

and touch up.

3.3.2 Prior to and during application as per manufacture's recommendations, paint shall

be mechanically agitated to give uniform mixing.

3.3.3 Where thinner is used for thinning the paint, volume shall be limited to the extend

specified by paint manufacturer's standards.

3.3.4 The primer coat of paint shall be applied within 4 hours after completion of surface

preparation.

3.3.5 Painting shall be carefully done at all edges, corners, crevices, weld and other

complex shapes. Especially, all sharp edges shall be ground smooth prior to coating

3.3.6 In the following cases, repair painting shall be done.

a) When there are development of any detrimental film irregularity, such as lifting

or loose of adhesion of the coat due to change of weather before dried.

b) When there are development of any detrimental film irregularity, such as loose,

cracked, brittle non-adherent paint, or discoloration during 4day after

completion of painting.

c) Other unacceptable cases

3.3.7 Repair painting shall be done as follows;.

a) Areas which are to be coated shall be thoroughly cleaned and free from grease, oil and other

contaminants, and shall be dried.

b) The surface, will be repaired, shall be performed reblasting and repainting

c) The relevant coating system shall be applied to match the surrounding sound coating.

d) Zinc containing paints are prohibited on stainless steels.

PAINT PROCEDURE

3.4 Environmental Condition

3.4.1 No painting and blast cleaning operation shall be done in the following weather conditions

on the work area.

a) Rain, snow, fog, mist

b) Dust effects adversely due to high point

c) Metal temperature is less than 3 deg.C above dew point

d) Relative humidity is 90% or more

e) Any other conditions as per suppliers instructions

f) Air temperature is less than paint data sheet's.

e) The surface temperature is greater than paint data sheet's.

g) When the availible light is less than 550 lux.

4 Inspection

Inspection and test shall be carried out as per SP-1246, Part 4(Surface Preparation, Application and inspection
of coating systems)

4.1 Wet Film Thickness checking in accordance with ISO 2808, Method No.7B

4.2 Dry Film Thickness checking in accordance with ISO 2808, Method No.6

4.3 Adhesion checking

When coating adhesion or intercoat adhesion is of suspect quality, the adhesion shall be checked by means of:

* Cross-cut test in accordance with ISO 2409

or

* Pull-off adhesion tester in accordance with ASTM D4541.

Product description

This is a two component polyamine cured phenolic/novolac epoxy coating. It is heat resistant up to 205 °C (401
°F) and can be applied on hot substrates up to 150 °C (302 °F). The standard aluminium version may be used
as primer, mid coat or finish coat. RAL 9006 is a specialty finish where a bright aluminium effect is required and
is only used as a final coat/finish coat. Suitable for properly prepared carbon steel, galvanised steel, stainless
steel and aluminium substrates.

Designed as corrosion protection for surfaces operating at elevated temperatures where long corrosion
protection is desired. Suitable for insulated and non insulated surfaces.

Surface preparation

To secure lasting adhesion to the subsequent product all surfaces shall be clean, dry and free from any
contamination.

Optimum performance, including adhesion, corrosion protection, heat resistance and chemical resistance is
achieved with recommended surface preparation.

Product description

This is a two component polyamide cured zinc rich epoxy coating. It is a high solids, high zinc dust containing
product. It conforms to the compositional requirements of SSPC paint 20, level 2 and ISO 12944-5. It provides
very good corrosion protection as part of a complete coating system. To be used as primer in atmospheric
environments. Suitable for carbon steel, repair of inorganic zinc silicate coating and damaged galvanised steel
substrates. This product complies with ASTM D520 type II zinc dust.

Typical use

Protective:

Suitable for structural steel and piping to be exposed to highly corrosive environments, C5I or C5M (ISO
12944-2). Recommended for offshore environments, refineries, power plants, bridges, buildings, mining
equipment and general structural steel. Specially designed as a primer for coating systems where extended
durability is required.

Penguard Express

Product description

This is a two component amine cured epoxy coating. It is a fast drying, high solids, high build product. Specially
designed for new construction where short dry to handle and over coating times are required. Can be used as
primer, mid coat, finish coat or as single coat system in atmospheric environments. Suitable for properly
prepared carbon steel, aluminium, concrete and galvanised steel substrates. It can be applied at sub zero
surface temperatures.

Typical use

Suitable for structural steel and piping to be exposed to highly corrosive environments, C5I or C5M (ISO
12944-2). Recommended for offshore environments, refineries, power plants, bridges, buildings and mining
equipment.

Pre-qualification testing in accordance with NORSOK M-501, Rev. 5, System 1, suitable for exterior exposure in
offshore environment, below 120 °C.

good gloss retention. It is a high solids product. The product has good application properties with low dry spray.
