Nearpod Links

The teacher will start the Zoom meeting by posting a link to the Nearpod Live Lesson in the chat room. The teacher will share their
screen to show students what they should see when they click on the link.

The lesson beings with an open­response question to engage students. Students can type their answers in the space provided, or
record their responses using the audio­recording tool. The teacher will make sure students understand the question by reading it
aloud to them, and demonstrating how students can use the interactive slide. The teacher will allow students to record or write their
responses to the prompt for 3 minutes. 

After student responses have been collected, the teacher will go to the next slide and have students answer the following poll: What
is the first step of the Big 6 Research Model? Students will be asked to take their best guesses, as students have not learned about
the Big 6 Model yet.

After all the students have selected an answer, the teacher will go to the next slide and ask for students to discuss what they wrote
down/recorded from the free­response. This will take about 3 minutes to encourage critical thinking. The teacher will ask students
WHY they went to another country, WHAT they did, and if there was anything they did NOT like about it. 

The teacher will transition into the next slide and introducing the unit project: 

 You are a new writer for Travel magazine, which helps people learn about other countries that they might want to visit.
Instructional Procedures You have been asked to find a country to "visit" and write a magazine article about that country. The article will be
used to persuade other people to visit the country that you visited. 

Transitioning to the next slide, the teacher will introduce the first step of the Big 6 Research Model: Task Definition. The teacher will
ask students to respond to the following question: WHY do you need to do research for the magazine? (example answers: you have
not been to that country, you don't know much about the country, you want to find the good and bad things about going to other
countries) The teacher will also engage students by thinking about what they do not know about the country. 

The teacher will transition to the next slide by telling the students to watch the following clip and think about what the song is about.
(the 5 W's, they are often the beginning of a question, you ask questions with those words).

The teacher will then tell students that they will be collaborating on their screens and typing questions on the following slide. The
students will be able to drag their questions around the board. The teacher will allow students 5 minutes to collaborate and arrange
their questions on the screen. Then students will discuss their questions and why they might be used to find information about a new
country. 

The teacher will then ask students to complete the quiz on the last slide independently, and tell their teacher what they got
right/wrong via the chat on Zoom. After 3 minutes to complete the quiz, students can spend time with the teacher discussing that the
next lesson will talk more about the Big 6 Research Method, and they should take time outside of class to come up with 5 questions
they might want to ask about a country (their countries have not been assigned yet) and submit on Google Classroom.
