1 A pair of links having surface or area contact between the members is known as kinematic pair.

The
contact surfaces of the two links are similar. The study of pairs and their applications are very
important for kinematic analysis. Match the following kinematic pairs with proper schematic and
application.

2 A link may consist of several parts, which are rigidly fastened together, so that they do not move
relative to one another. The below mentioned mechanism (Fig. 1) converts a rotary motion into
reciprocating motion. In this concern identify and reconstruct the diagram by necessary parts (Crank,
lever, rocker, connecting rod, fixed link, cylinder, pistion, piston rod, slider, follower).

3 Expressing the number of degree of freedom of a linkage in terms of the number of links and the
number of pair connections of different types is known as number synthesis of a mechanisms. In this
concern identifying the system may be mechanism, structure kinematic constraints are the most
important one. Match the following system, with proper schematic and description.

motion between the two elements is partly turning and partly sliding, then the pair is known as higher
pair. A pair of friction discs, toothed gearing, belt and rope drives, ball and roller bearings and cam and
