2. False --- Electricity produced in power stations is either by using the energy of
flowing water or of that hot steam and not by the chemical reaction as in dry cells .
3. False ---- Battery is a combination of cells hence a single cell provides less power
than a battery.
A: Thermal power stations, Hydel power stations , Batteries and Dry cell .
A: A reflector reflects the light rays and gives a bright , steady beam of light.
Conductors : Substances that allow electricity and heat to pass through them are
called conductors . Eg Metals like copper, aluminium .
1. Explain the parts of an electric light bulb using a well labelled diagram .
A: Refer fig : 15.2. Refer pg 183 Make the student underline in the text book.
2.What is a dry cell ? Explain its inside structure .
3: What are open and closed electric circuits ? Draw diagrams to explain this
using bulb, cell, switch and wire.
A; A circuit which provides unbroken and continuous path for the current to
flow is called a closed circuit.
A:A circuit that is not continuous and current cannot flow through it is called an
open circuit.
Let the student draw them in Notebooks. Teachers to draw on the board using
symbols of bulb ,switch ,cell and wire for closed and open circuits.
Q4. Draw a labelled diagram of an electric torch and explain its working .
Ans : Draw and label the diagram from pg 187 and learn points from the same pg
A: Electrical conductors are materials that allow electric current to flow through
them .
Insulators are materials that do not allow electric current to flow through them .
-Wires carrying electric current have a central inner part made of copper and the
cover is made of plastic for insulation .
HOTS:
A. Electrical objects have wooden and plastic handles as they are insulators and
do not allow electric current to pass through them and prevent us from getting
shocks .
B. Conductor
C: Gaurav is asked to wear rubber slippers while heating the food in the micro
wave by his aunt to prevent him from getting shock due to electricity .
D: To prevent electrocution.
Extra HOTS:
1.we should remove the cord of the appliance from the supply when not in use ?
A; it helps in saving electricity and also helps in prolonging life of the appliance.
2. A student has prepared a closed circuit with a bulb to glow as his project in
electricity and placed a plastic pin instead of metal pin in the circuit . Do you
think his project would be correct to show closed circuit or not ? If no why?
A: Plastic pin is an insulator which does not allow current to flow through it and
his project will be a failure as it would be an open circuit.
Activity: Prepare an electric circuit using a bulb ,switch ,conducting wire sand a
dry cell – closed circuit and open circuit .
