Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Book report
Harry is a normal kid who lives with his cousin Dudly and his aunt and uncle,
Petunia and Vernom Dursley. His family is really cold and mean with Harry but he
doesn´t know why. Harry’s parents died in a car accident when he was a baby,
according to his uncle. When Harry turns 12, he receives a letter but his uncle
doesn’t let him read it because he is not used to receive letters. A few days later,
Harry receives another one, which his uncle also take away from him, the problem
is that the letters keep coming to their house until one day his uncle gets really
mad and he decides to stay the night at a house in the middle of the sea, where
they can´t receive anything.
While they were asleep, a huge man break into their house, waking everybody up.
For Harry´s surprise, the man already knew him. Hagrid is the name of the huge
human, he tell Harry that their parents were wizards who got killed by another evil
wizard named Voldemort. He took Harry to a train station and explained him that
he was chosen to study at Hogwarts, a school for wizards.
On his way to Hogwarts he met Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger, and they
soon became friends. He also meets Draco, a boy who instantly becomes his
enemy.
When the train arrives Hogwarts, they have to be assigned in one of the four
houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Ron and Hermione are
sorted into Gryffindor and Draco is sorted into Slytherin, who has a bad reputation
for being the house of most the most evil wizards in history. Harry wants to stay
with his friends, so at the end he ends up into Gryffindor.
As classes begin in Hogwarts, Harry discovers one of the most popular games in
the wizard world, Quidditch, the game consist of five players flying in broomsticks.
He discovers he is really at it, so he gets into the official team.
One day Harry discovers that Voldemort wants to kill him because he is the only
one able enough to stop him. But Voldemort is really weak after trying to end Harry
with a spell that hurts him at the end, so he needs the Philosopher’s stone which is
hidden at Hogwarts, so he can get strong again.
Harry and his friends think that Snape, a teacher who dislikes Harry is the one that
wants to steal the stone, so they came up with a plan to stop him. They start with a
research about the stone and how it is guarded.
One day, while they were walking, they accidentally discover the place where is the
stone but they don’t say anything about it. A few days later, they heard that
Dumbledore, Hogwarts principal, is leaving the school to attend a meeting; so they
think that Snape is going to steal the stone while Dumbledore is not there. So they
decided to follow him a stop him.
They come back to the place they found days before but they realized that Snape
arrived first.
Apparently each teacher in school put a spell to protect to stone, the first one is an
enormous dog with three heads who is laying above a little door; Hermione told
Ron and Harry that the dog falls asleep with music, so they play music to be able
to pass through the door. The next obstacle they find is a weird plant that traps you
when you move, they have trouble with it because Ron doesn’t stop moving so
Germione has to rescue him, then they reach a room with a lot of flying keys, they
have to use one of them to open a door, Harry uses his ability to fly and he catches
the right key. Through that door they find a big chess board with missing pieces
that have to be replaced with one of them; Ron is really good at chess so he tells
Harry and Hermione what to do in order to win. Ron is hurt and he has to stay
there but Harry and Hermione reach the final room, where they have to prepare a
potion to get to the stone. Harry takes the potion and Hermione gets back with
Ron.
Suddenly, Harry finds himself in a room with a big mirror in it but he is not alone,
one of their teachers, Quirrell is there with him. Harry is very surprised when he
realized that he is the one that wants to steal the stone, but the surprise continues
when he also finds out that Voldemort is sharing body with Quirrell, which is been
controlled by Volemort.
Quirrell forces Harry to stand in front of the mirror that has the power to show to
you your biggest wish, Harry sees that the stone is on his pocket, but he lies to
Quirrell and tell him that he only sees himself wining a Quidditch game. Voldemort
knows he is lying so Quirrell stars fighting against Harry to get the stone but Harry
beats him by burning him with his hands because of the power of Harry’s mother
love.
Harry wakes up a few days later at the school’s infirmary and his friends told him
that he passed out after beating Quirrell, they also tell him that Voldemort escaped
but he was really weak so he didn’t take the stone with him. Voldemort
congratulates Harry and tells him that the stone has been destroyed.
At the end of the year they have a feast and one of the houses receives a trophy,
Gryffindor is the winning house thanks to the abilities they show during the year.
Harry returns to Privet Drive with his family in the summer, but nothing is the same
now.
