 1. FIRST CONDITIONAL

We use the first conditional to express something that will  probably happen in the future.
If Paul gets the job, he will move to London.

    IF CLAUSE                MAIN CLAUSE
Present Simple                               Future Simple (will + infinitive)

.                           Modal verbs (Can / May / Must + infinitive)

                                                                       Imperative

The first conditional

When we are thinking about a possible situation in the future we use

IF + PRESENT SIMPLE, FUTURE WILL

FUTURE VERB + IF + PRESENT SIMPLE

If I go to London this weekend, I´ll go shopping in Oxford Street.

If he has time, he´ll help you.

What will you do if it rains during the picnic?

She won´t be happy if you don´t lend her the money.

(no comma is necessary when we reverse the order)

2. ZERO CONDITIONAL

We use the zero conditional for general truths or natural laws.
If you don’t water plants regularly, they die.
If you heat ice, it turns into water.

 The zero conditional

We use IF + PRESENT SIMPLE, PRESENT SIMPLE when we are thinking about facts which are generally
true:
If you lie in the sun too long, you get sunburnt. (always true)
We can reverse the order: PRESENT SIMPLE +IF + PRESENT SIMPLE

You get sunburnt if you lie in the sun too long.

  IF CLAUSE                MAIN CLAUSE
      Present Simple                                          Present Simple

Sometimes, we use: IF + PRESENT SIMPLE, IMPERATIVE:

If you see Anna, please give her my love.
If you go abroad, don´t forget to take your passport.
 We can use UNLESS to mean except if
We can often use UNLESS + a positive verb instead of IF + a negative verb
