MODEL “LB” FISHING CUP
1. GENERAL
It is recognized that a clean bottom of the hole is of utmost importance during
drilling operation. Inadequate the hole cleaning will result in re-drilling, thus
shortening the bit life (particularly for the diamond bit), reducing ROP and increasing
the drilling cost. Model “LB” Fishing Cup is a practical and effective tool. During
drilling operation, it can be used to recover the heavier drilling cuttings or metal chips
which are difficult to be lifted out of the borehole by normal drilling fluid circulation.
The Cup is made of high quality steel which has experienced the special heat
treatment.
2. CONSTRUCTION
As seen in the figure 5-26, the Fishing Cup is
composed of mandrel, centralizing block and cup body. Mandrel

During drilling operation, the generated drilling
cuttings are removed away from the bottom of the hole and

lifted in the annular space by drilling fluid. When they
reach the cup opening, the heavier drilling cuttings will fall
into the cup. Then, the bottom of the hole is cleaned.
4. OPERATION
The Fishing Cup can be treated as a normal drill tool, Cup Body
no special operation is required. Commonly, the Fishing
Cup is connected above the bit, and can also be connected
above the flat bottom mill and scraper. When it is used
together with the flat bottom mill, it can work more
effectively.
5. MAINTENANCE
The used Cup should be cleaned and carefully checked.
When necessary, defect detection should be conducted. The
cracked or damaged Cup can not be used again. For the
qualified Cup, both ends should be protected with the

thread protector, followed by performing the
rust-preventive treatment and being properly stored for future use.

6． SPECIFICATIONS
When order, note that:
① Choose the Cup in accordance with the size of the hole.
② Determine which type of the Cup will be used according to down-hole condition.
