WHAT IS AGENDA 21
Agenda 21 was signed by 172 member
countries of the United Nations. These
countries commit themselves through
environmental, economic and social
policies at the local level..

It is a global strategy that is


implemented locally and involves all
sectors of a community: social, cultural,
economic and environmental.

OBJECTIVES OF AGENDA 21
Agenda 21 must contemplate three
aspects: environmental sustainability,
social justice and economic balance.
All of them depend on citizen
participation.s.

POLITICAL COMMITMENT

Political commitment: to sign the


documents as the commitment of
Aalborg or to create a Local Declaration
of Sustainability that, as a symbolic act,
is a political commitment to the
objectives.

CITIZEN PARTICIPATION

Citizen participation: create instruments


so that citizens can participate in the
preparation and drafting of documents.

DIAGNOSIS
Diagnosis: of the sustainability
problems faced by that
particular community.
PREPARATION OF ACTIONS

Preparation of actions: design the


plan, objectives and strategies to
improve the problems diagnosed.

EXECUTION

Execution: of the actions


foreseen in the previous
plan..

EVALUATION
Evaluation: and monitoring of the plan
and if the objectives have been met.
