Problem 2: (30 Points)
Select the lightest W-section of A992 steel for the beam shown in the Figure below
that can support the uniformly distributed ultimate load shown below. The lateral
supports are provided at points A, B, C, D, E and F. The values of Cb are calculated
and shown below. Use the charts in the design. Neglect the self-weight of the
beam. Show your calculations.

Problem 3: (30 Points)
The simply supported beam shown in the Figure below is made of A992 steel. The
beam is subjected to ultimate uniformly distributed load of 4.5 k/ft as shown in the
Figure. Lateral supports are provided at points A, B and C. Determine a W section for
the beam using the Charts ONLY. Neglect self-weight of beam.
