Reflection
Throughout my current college experience I have learned that college is not what I
expected. I never went to college or even thought about it, I never believed it was for me or
something I truly needed. Being a gear head from the time I could walk, I always knew I would
be a mechanic. I worked as a motorcycle mechanic all through high school and continued to do
so a few years after. Being my first time with classes like this I have definitely learned way more
than I had expected. When it comes to composition one, I have learned how to format essays
more creatively, how to write a proper blog post, and how to follow a syllabus.
When it comes to essays I have never been very creative or proficient in my writing.
During the many essays in this class I learned how to improve my writing and how to better
format my papers. This class allowed me to expand my knowledge when it comes to writing. I
learned that the format of the essay is crucial to creating a strong paper. I gained many tricks and
tips to use to keep the audience entertained as well as get my points across to the readers. Pathos,
ethos, and logos were new to me. These three elements allow the writer to show the purpose
more effectively.
Writing blogs is something I never saw myself doing. Granted it was not for public
viewing,I tried my best to make my blog posts very entertaining. I wanted my blogs to be
something that if I stumbled upon them on the internet, I would enjoy reading them. Blogging for
this class actually peaked my interest and showed me how fun it can really be. I have actually

pondered upon the idea of creating my own personal blog. Not that it would be read by others,
but it allowed me to put my thoughts on “paper” and it felt nice to get my opinions out there.
Syllabi are nothing new to me, however I never truly understood the magnitude of a
syllabus. During highschool, every class I took had a syllabus, but it was never really followed.
The syllabi I had in highschool are more or less just a materials list. All of the supplies needed
for class were outlined in this text that was handed out to the students, and hardly ever made it
back home with the teens. During my first semester at SJR State, I found out the importance of
the syllabi as well as the canvas application. Without these two elements I doubt I would have
All in all I have had a very good first impression of this school and composition one. I do
believe that composition one allowed me to be creative and have fun while being at school. I
enjoyed every day of class, which was surprising due to my past English class experiences. I
wish Professor McGriff the best and I would take her class again if I could. I am truly grateful
for all the information I have soaked up while being in this class. I am positive this class will
