Exercise 3.1

Explain how mathematics is used in the following areas. Answer in not more than five (5) sentences.

1. Physics
- In physics, mathematics is commonly used for answering problems about our everyday life.
Formulas to use to calculate certain values in order to find the right measurement in a
certain problem. The constant measurement for gravity to solve the acceleration or the
speed of a moving object with a fixed distance. Mathematics is like the brain of physics.
Without it, physics will not be physics.
2. Chemistry
- In chemistry, mathematics is commonly used in calculating the molar masses, moles, in
chemical equations to find new elements that is possible to be created using common
elements. And also, mathematics is used in balancing elements.
3. Biology
- In biology, mathematics is also used for simple, raw data collection in biology which is useful
in monitoring changes over time. Biostatistics uses statistical analysis to draw conclusions
about biological phenomena, such as associations or correlations between biological
variables.
4. Engineering
- In engineering, mathematics is the vital component to master in order for you to become an
engineer. All of the topics in mathematics will be covered by engineering. Mathematics is
the heart of engineering so as an engineering student, I really need to master and
understand mathematics very deeply and carefully.
5. Linguistics
- In linguistics, they use mathematical methods in applying concepts to linguistic systems.
They use it to observe the phenomena in natural languages, or to the metatheory of models
of grammars.
