Assessment 1 (part A)

To get success in the goal or to accomplish a mission, the change should be adapted and manage.
Without adapting to the change no one can accomplish the goal; this basic principal principle can be
even found by throughout our Universe. For example, when it becomes hot, we sweat. This is a natural
response by our body to the hot environment to regulate the temperature of our body. However,
uncontrollable change can be catastrophic, that’s reason change should be managed and controlled. So,
this paper will analyze the changes that occurred in the Blue Spider Project and will present different
strategies that could have worked if implemented correctly.

Coming to the concept of Change Management in Project execution which plays a crucial in managing
and delivering a project. Basically, Change management is all about controlling change so as to ensure
the desired behavioral outcomes would result and work towards securing the objective of the project.
You can also define the “Change Management is about managing the process of implementing major
changes in projects, business processes, organizational structures and job assignments to reduce the
risks and costs of change and optimize its benefits.”(Murthy, C.S.V, Change Management). Mainly there
are two factors or reasons on why change becomes necessary in the survival of the project. One is the
external force for example, for example, the Technological advance , change in government laws and
regulation and the other one is an internal force like change in the needs of the client or , change in the
budget of the project.

From the given case study, we can see number issues like Organisation architecture / Relations were not
clear and miscommunication among team, we can see this when test matrix in lab fails and , Gary does
not communicate this as an issue or escalate this as a problem and As he was not clear on the duties of a
Project/ Program Manager he took it upon himself to do all the tasks himself did not use his team
effectively due which it got impacted project timeline. His communication to with the client (Lord
Industries) and internally was very poor other than this there were was numerous the Blue Spider
project faced like lack cost Budgeting, improper handling of change requesting and leading to time
mismanagement.

To avoid this issue, Gary should have communicated the lab test matrix results with the higher official
and should have implemented proper change management techniques and properly communicated
through out the team. So that if there is a short fall of resources or budget then the entire team and
client will be aware of the situation beforehand.

There was no verification of Scope Management on a project. If Scope planning and definition were
clearly identified and defined. then the research on JXB-3 will be out of scope. Had Gary been doing
Scope verification and control this would not have happened in this way and he would not be totally
unaware of this testing going on and could have managed it better. if this been identified sooner, there
would not be wasted resources working on existing material for no reason.

Many of the issues would be clearly identified, if change management process was properly initiated
during the start of the project, One of the change management models which could helped is REACT
model (Finch, E. (Ed.)) which is based upon Wehrung(1998) risk management model

lack consnappropriate handling of change management, time mismanagement, improper

documentation, insufficient funds.

and followed and and others time mismanagement, improper documentation, insufficient funds

In conclusion, The BLUE SPIDER PROJECT was failing all the above -mentioned aspects and basic
principals of project management. If the changes were properly managed and were communicated
properly then the complication like, miscommunication between the team and client, budget
estimation, Scope Management, and Time Management would have been sorted accordingly.
