CHAPTER 1:

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Background of the Study:

In this part of the chapter, provide an in-depth discussion on what your topic is
about; provide your readers with an explanation on your concept, as well as explain
salient points to remember about your study.

Include in your background of the study proper citations of ideas and concepts
that you have used as basis for the formulation of your research problem.

Have a concise explanation as to why you the researchers have decided to have
this topic for your research; please limit your background of the study to one page only.

Research Problem and Questions:

For this part of the study, simply state your objective; what do you aim to find out
in your research?

Specifically, you have to enumerate the research questions that YOU as the
researchers will have to answer at the end of the study. Please note the following details:

1. Please determine what you want to be answered in your research.

2. Be specific when formulating your research questions; avoid overly general

questions to avoid confusions.
3. Remember that your research questions will serve as your guide when
formulating either your interview questions (qualitative), or your research
instruments (quantitative).

Conceptual Framework of Research

**Note: This is JUST AN EXAMPLE; You may have OTHER forms of conceptual
Framework based on what is needed by your research

For the conceptual framework, provide a visual representation of the variables

and concepts involved in your study; provide an explanation as to how each variable/
concept you have presented is related/ connected to each other; provide your readers an
idea on how each of the variables plays a role in your research work.

For Theoretical framework, please provide an explanation of the theory that

would be the basis for your discussion of the study. Include proper citations, as well as a
detailed explanation of how the theory is used as framework for the conduct of your
study.

Hypothesis/Assumption:

In your hypothesis/assumptions, state your expected outcomes. What do you think

will be the result of your study? Will there be any differences with what has been
mentioned in previous studies indicated in your references?

For QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH, please ensure that your hypothesis is

measurable/ testable (can be verified/answered through statistical data resulting from
your data analysis process.

For QUALITATIVE RESEARCH, clearly discuss what your expectations are in

terms of the possible results of your study. Include references or other basis for your
assumption about your current study.

Significance of the Study:

In this part, identify the following details:

1. Who will benefit from your study:

Explain why these people/ individuals will be on of your beneficiaries in this
research; identify how they will benefit from this research and how this research
will be of help to them.

2. More people or individuals who will benefit:

Similarly, also explain how your beneficiaries where identified to be the ones who
will benefit from the results of your research study.

Scope and Limitations:

For this part of Chapter 1, you are to discuss in detail the extent of your study—
what will your study be about, what will you be covering in your study, who will be
involved, how will they be involved, where will the study take place.

Note that it is important to be very clear regarding the coverage, and up to what
extent will your study be. This is in order to avoid any complications that might stem up
from your inability to explain that certain factors, areas, details, or variables will no
longer be involved in the conduct of your study.

Definition of Terms:

For this part, please only include the TECHNICAL, OPERATIONAL, and
COMPLEX words, expressions, titles, jargons that the readers might not have an idea of.
Provide a short description of the word, followed by and explanation of the meaning of
your terms.

Ethical Issues/ Considerations:

For this part, provide a detailed discussion of potential ethical issues or

considerations that you researchers must take note of; it is imperative that you provide
an explanation as to WHY you have listed the ethical issues, and HOW you are able to
overcome/ address the issues and concerns that you have presented.

CHAPTER 2:

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

For this part of the study, you have to provide a detailed, clear, and
comprehensive discussion of the different THEMES you have formed based on your
related literature. Provide a clear explanation of the ideas, information, and other
relevant details which are vital to your research project.

Moreover, do not forget to include proper in-text citations to ALL your sources in
order to further reinforce the concepts that you have presented in your study. Your
review of related literature must be based on studies and articles which are RELEVANT
to your research topic. Do not forget that it is important to always consider the SIMILAR
THEMES that your related literature have.

CHAPTER 3:

METHODOLOGY

Research Design:

For this part of Chapter 2, please provide a detailed discussion of the research
design that you will be using. Is it Qualitative? Quantitative? Is it Mixed method?
(Quali-Quanti) Provide an explanation.

Moreover, please have an explanation on the rationale (reasons) why your group
has decided to have this research design.

Sampling and Participants:

For this part, explain (in detail) who your respondents will be. Explain the reason
why you have selected them to be your research respondents. In addition, please explain
how you were able to determine your research sample. If quantitative, explain the
formula you used in identifying your sample size.

If qualitative, explain how you were able to determine who your respondents are,
and explain why they were selected to be your research subjects.

Instruments:

For this part, please discuss the research instrument that you have used in your
data gathering process. This is the part where you have to clearly discuss the rationale
behind the research instruments that you have used, as well as provide proper citations if
you have borrowed your material from other sources.

For QUALITATIVE research, explain what the interview questions are, and
determine your reasons for formulating your interview questions. If you used
observation, explain what kind of observation was conducted

For QUANTITATIVE research, explain the instrument that you used; also,
identify or inform your readers regarding the source where you have taken your
instrument.

Data Gathering Procedure:

In this part of Chapter 2, explain how your research group has conducted the
data gathering process. How many days did it take? Where did it take place? What were
the steps that you have done before gathering your data? Who were directly involved?
Were there people that you had to communicate with in order to gain approval for the
conduct of your research?

Data Analysis:

For this particular area, please explain HOW you were able to analyze your
gathered data.

For QUANTITATIVE research, have a detailed explanation of the STATISTICAL

treatment that you have used in your study. Provide a rationale as to WHY and HOW you
were able to come up with the treatment that you have used for your data analysis.

Furthermore, please provide how the treated data will be interpreted (e.g. tables,
charts, graphs, etc.) in order to give light to how the data you have gathered are used in
your research.

For QUALITATIVE research, explain how the interviews/ observations are

interpreted based on your research work. Discuss how the interview details are used for
the discussion of the results in your study.

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Results Presentation/ Discussion:

For this part of Chapter 4, please provide a COMPREHENSIVE discussion of

ALL the results of your study. Please ensure that the results you have presented are
ACCURATE and RELIABLE.

Whenever you present your results, please ensure that you indicate the
implication of your findings to your study; furthermore, please provide details from your
RRL that support or counter your findings.

Ensure that your findings are RELEVANT to your study, and that you are able to
connect your findings with that of the information from your related literature.

For QUANTITATIVE studies, please provide proper labels and discussions to

your graphic data organizers. Ensure that your organizers are provided with much
needed explanation.

For QUALITATIVE studies, as much as possible, include direct quotations from

your interviewees in order to help authenticate the conducted interview. Much better if
there would be “snippets” of the interview included to further support the discussion that
you have.
